Greetings,

I recently launched a new home page and I've got some mixed reviews on it. I am working on a few designs and wanted the community's input on site design and development. Please answer the following questions:

1) Do you typically use dark mode or light mode?

2) What information do you want to see on the home page?

3) What part of the current design works and what does not?

4) What color palets do you like?

As it stands, I kinda feel this site feels too much like a modern SASS app rather than a proper debate site.

I've done some experimentation on trying to bring back some of the classic DDO feel. I wanted to bring this design up to the community and get the community's feedback

To be honest the site has tons of cool features. We have everything really I have ever wanted back on DDO. I wouldn’t say stop making new features or anything, but maybe the new crowd has more things they want. I’m perfectly content with the site the way it is though.

In loving Memory of Lannan and Ajab, fallen debaters.

I especially like the new "Opinions" section. Whoever came up with that is a genius.

That was Kohai. It's based on a similar thing on ddo. We were a bit conflicted about adding it earlier seeing as it might attract the lowest common denominator, but the user base here seems a bit more mature.

Yeah. It was a direct copy from DDO.

The problem on DDO was the opinion quality was really bad and we also didn’t want to add too many features at once.

Now that we have decent activity this is a good time to pilot opinions

How about a hot drinks machine.

Think of it as coffee / hot chocolate.

I hope you like the color scheme

Fine by me.

It's cool but you can't neglect the functionalities. So far I'm not able to copy/paste simple text on new posts.

What's the matter with that?

Someone please send me an offline facsimile so I can play with it and show the staff my version of it.

Forum signatures are bullshit. Nobody wants to waste their time and bandwidth reading something they have read 29,998,559,671,349 times before.

Can you show me what you’re seeing? I can copy and paste just fine

I figured it out. Some how you got paste blocked. This should be fixed now

Did staff members write all the code for the forums themselves or with AI help, or did y'all use an existing framework for at least some of it?

Now it's fine. Thanks.

You should block copy/paste to @RemyBrown.

The copy / paste blocker is more to prevent repetitive spamming and copy paste from AI. I don’t think blocking pasting for RB would be effective as I don’t see him repeatedly copying and pasting the same content or flooding with AI generated posts.

Savant uses Gemini and I use chatGPT / Codex.

Chatgpt is good, but make sure to open new chat every time you use it to generate or fix code. I am not sure why, but when same chat is used for too long, it hallucinates way more and sometimes even makes entirely new errors after fixing old ones.

I’ve noticed this also. Every major new branch I usually use a new chat window and cross reference with more than 1 model

Currently, I find a bit of issues with opinions segment of site. The comments are a bit tricky to load. At start, it’s fine, but when conversation becomes longer, it gets a bit awkward and very difficult to follow who is responding to what. When comments have multiple pages, it’s not really clearly visible.

Thank you for your feedback. I’ve noticed this also and ill work on this

II don't know if this possible or practical but I'm wondering if it's possible to provide an option to select the color of the text. It's an option in word, and I hoping it would be an option with whatever word processor the website uses,

My issue is this "no contrast" thing that has just gotten out of hand, I get why it's done, black text on a white background is supposed to be stressful on the eyes, but I think washed out gray against a while background is more stressful because it's so much harder to read. I've asked a lot of people how they have their Word set, everybody prefers black text on a while background, I don't think anybody given the choice prefers less contrast.

If it was selectable here, I bet almost everybody would select black, if you couldn't make it selectable and had a vote about font color, I bet everyone would vote for black (maybe not Fauxlaw, voting for black would probably be too "woke" for him lol),

It's even worse with packaging, every time I try to read directions that are microscopic white text in a yellow box, or dark blue against dark green, It's also bad on menu's in dimly lit restaurants, my wife won't let me wear a headlamp out to dinner (go figure),

Now I'm ranting, anyway, it's just a suggestion but if it's easy to do, I think it would probably be appreciated by most of the members if we could have the option to have some contrast so we can actually read it.

Aesthetically it was a very good update.

The US is a definitively secular nation, founded on complete separation of the State and religion. The Left Wing of US realise this but don't realise that pure freedom requires as low tax and free access to guns as possible. The Right Wing of US don't realise that secular pure freedom means the LGBTQ+ and abortion agendas both end up in line with US's liberty-first ethos.

It is left-wing to be pro-life. You are backing poor babies being born at the inconvenience of the already-born. Go figure.

In my personal opinion, the dark mode looks better. Even if I primarily use light mode.

But in all actuality, the site design is acceptable either way.

Both versions are modern while preserving the traditional style.

DebateArt's ugly format was as outdated as YahooAnswers.

I would prefer the dark mode. It looks better on my iPad by reducing the rear lighting.

Thank you for your feedback. One thing I'm considering is building a customizable setting where people can customize the text color, size, brightenss etc.
