Research indicates that between 15% and 34% of individuals with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) will attempt suicide in their lifetime.

Depression is actually a major suicide risk, much bigger than rape. And those who are victims of rape were often depressed before rape even happened, because they had other conditions causing depression.

LOL, this seems very appropriate in this thread. Thanks for sharing.

Now I'm wondering - was Remy horribly disfigured in a tragic accident? Was an innebriated bear barreling down the highway in his 1970 Stingray convertible, hot babe on his arm, when a moment of distraction caused our upstanding ursine citizen to veer off onto the shoulder, colliding with Remy's bicycle? It's all making sense now.

I can agree that rape is very harmful. I just can't agree that it's more harmful than drunk driving.

Drunk driver who kills a kid on a road will always be worse in my eyes than a rapist.

And some drunk drivers kill entire families.

If someone gets injured from a DUI crash, then I can see a massive chance that they would be suicidal too. I would be suicidal if I lost my leg.

Yeah but with a DUI most of the time there will be no injury and thus no potential for trauma.

Your claim makes sense if I was defending legalizing rape. I'm merely saying it's not as bad as DUI. Accusations of sexism and SkyWalker RageBait mean nothing anymore.

Sidewalker's meme and my agreement with it make sense in a world where reality prevails and sexual assault (and rape) is understood as a direct and intentional attack on a person while DUI is not.

The Justice system recognizes this fact. I mean, here in my state, DUI is a misdemeanor until the THIRD offense while sexual assault is a felony. Period.

OP is quite literally minimizing sexual attacks. Is it any wonder why so many women choose the bear?

If someone was driving dangerous enough from DUI that they get caught and I'm a passenger, then I'd probably deal with trauma from that. I'd be scared of getting in a car crash and losing my legs. That would be traumatizing.

Well presumably you knew they were drunk when you got in the car.

DUI is a direct and intentional attack on any passengers in the vehicle and any vehicles that the DUI offender hit. Rape is an intentional attack on one person.

People who drive under the influence do not typically get into a vehicle planning to hurt others. They either dont realize how impaired they are and/or they think they can make it home without incident. Thus, DUI is not a direct and intentional attack on other people. If someone other than the offender is hurt, it is unintentional and incidental.

Then maybe lets make first time DUI offense a felony worse than rape. So much trauma gets produced from DUI if you are a passenger or another vehicle.

There is no good reason to do that. Rape is a much more aggressive transgression and harm of another is always involved.

It's the results which matter, not intentions.

If some drunk driver hit me and I lost my legs because of a drunk driver, I don't care what his intentions were. I would still want to apply the torture.

That is absolutely not true from a legal standpoint. Intent matters. Culpability is determined by the level of intent: purposefully, knowingly, recklessly, or negligently.

I wonder what you think you've replied to... DUI and Rape are crimes.

The topic of this debate is a comparison of crimes. Arbitrarily dismissing a legitimate standard is not reasonable.

You're not providing any explanation. I believe this is an attempt to shut down the conversation in an area that makes OP's argument untenable.
