Barry Mafia - DP2

Again, I thoroughly apologize to everyone for my low activity level. I think I have to claim, even if it's only to get out of the grave I dug (no offense to Cerulean) for myself by being inactive.

I am Barry Berkman, Strengthener. Each night, I can choose a player and make their action immune to blocks or redirects. Justification is that Barry got other people tangled into his misadventures with the criminal underworld, which led them into committing acts that they would not have done otherwise. Last night, I used it on Wryly because she was my strongest townread.

The reason I thought Lunatic's Informed Townie message about someone's role being a greater nuisance than they know might refer to me is because I could override Shining's Jailkeeper. When I got my role PM, I figured that my role was in this setup to counter a scum roleblocker or redirector of some kind. There probably is one in the setup because I don't think my role is purely negative utility, especially not with Cerulean likely being a Gravedigger, but I didn't know that, if I targeted a mafiosi, I could potentially nullify a town roleblocker and/or a town protective.

Why is everyone choosing to interpret the Informed flip like that? Thats not what the flips says.

What is the take away assuming this is referring to Thoth? "Lol, you can nullify a RB"? Thats something you just know from the PM. Thats how your role works.

Assuming something to be true is very different from entertaining the possibility that it could be true. I'm saying that Luna's Informed Townie message MIGHT have been talking about the possible interaction between my role and yours. I knew from the start of the game how my role worked. I did not know there was a Jailkeeper.

Appreciate the claim, and don't worry about the inactivity. Illness happens.

Okay, I buy Barry Berkman; he has to be in the game and scum are never gonna fake claim him.

I'm unsure of the implications on Shining's claim. Strengthener implies scum have an RB and Shining could be a scum RB claiming Jailbreaker as a cover. Everyone who's claimed or flipped has a major character from season 1 except Shining. Jim Moss seems like a bit of a pull.

What happens if you strengthen someone who's been Jailkept? Does it prevent the roleblock or the roleblock and the protection?

Question, Shining- why didn't you try to roleblock me? It's clear that you did and still do suspect me, and with my claim, I likely would have carried the nightkill, if scum, since being seen wouldn't be incriminating. If you thought Pie was a PR, blocking him would have cost his action as well.

I don't believe WF would discard Barry from the game, and frankly it would surprise me if the main character was on the Mafia side of the theme split. This means that, unfortunately, game is hard.

Jim Moss sticks out as being the only character not in season 1.

Keep going back and forth on Vader, can't decide if his uncertainty on me today is a realistic train of thought or him just trying to leave me open as an opportunistic chop in case there's no consensus.

The FOS on Pie in p111 is interesting because it somewhat reads less of a FOS and more like the weighing of a 50/50. Maybe the word is used differently here? The way it's described makes it seem like he would be far less okay with a Pie lynch compared to any of the other three, he gives two reasons why scum!Pie doesn't work as well, but he still lumps Pie into the "I'm fine with any of these 4" pile.

Might just be messy town, though.

FMPOV it feels like today might end up being me or Shining and I'm not entirely certain which is the better chop. Probably Shining, but I'm paranoid that he could just be Town That's A Bit Sloppy With Their Role and I might end up being dead meat with the negative utility role in LYLO.

The fact that nobody has said "I'm a protective role too, so I soft CC him!" is what's giving me real doubt here.

I do think Wryly is at least slightly unpaired from Shining here, not because of the "how did you calculate that?" insistence, which could just be theater, but I microread p98 as unpairing in that

While it's possible Jim Moss could be a fake claim -- he doesn't seem like a central character for the first several seasons -- I doubt scum would want to claim a protective role since one is probably already in the game. I'll town pile Shining for the moment.

Doesn't read how you would typically want to defend a partner or bus a partner. If you're trying to bus, you diminish it by saying you're town piling them. If you're trying to defend, you don't want to bring up that it fits oddly into the characters, because Lunatic is dead and other people might not even notice that.

That being said, probably worthwhile to review that Wryly has actively been participating and that I'm not just being drawn in by the ~raw charisma~ on display. The post I just quoted is an instance of that but I want to look a little more.

Obviously this is far from a guarantee, but it would not surprise me if the theme were Noho Hank and Christobal. They are lovers according to Lunatic's list in day 1, post #44, and it stands out to me that they are both unclaimed but in Lunatic's shortlist.

The Strengthener's target would be immune to roleblocks that night, but the Jailkeeper would still protect them.

So reflecting back on this, you can't nullify a protective but you could prevent the Jailkeeper from roleblocking scum

I meant that I could nullify the Jailkeeper's protection if I Strengthened the scum who performed the NK and the Jailkeeper protected the NK target.

Yeah. So I could nullify the protection part of Jailkeeper or the roleblock part, but not both at once.

How confident are you in Rex's role being Town?

My main concern is that if it's something like a Masonizer, it could maybe be:

Monroe Fuches, Barry's old family friend since Barry's childhood and a former military cook, who groomed him for his post-military career as a hitman. He is cowardly, manipulative, and self-centered, refusing to believe he has been anything but good to Barry despite consistently abusing him and dragging him back into a life of crime to serve his own personal interests.

In the sense that the character seems to be a "contact" of sorts, which could be a Masonizer, and is evil-coded. I would like to believe that whatever it is is a Town role because that would make forming the POE a lot easier, but I'm still unsure.
