Can you elaborate more on why you voted me? What about me calling you out was scummy?

Well a few things there

In blind or semi-blind setups I do not like to make assumptions. Its very possible Mafia has PR's and adding some form of 1 shot strongman and such would be in the cards. I have asked quite a few questions to the host on the subject and strongman was brought up with protectives not functioning as +1/-1 but instead immunity with exceptions.

Does mafia need to be recruited to activate their PRs? Thats also a valid question. Something I have been watching for if people seem to lobby to be recruited and although both Town and mafia in that situation would have motive for doing so I am not seeing much of it. I would expect wolves to push in that direction if that was the case.

Then there is the question of 3p. One could exist with its own KPN and that could hit N1. Potential does exist there

And we can look at things from a balance perspective. 4v13 is slanted in towns favor. Town also starts (and should have had) 6 effective PR's at game start with a mechanic leveraging chunks of the town being role blocked each night to create more PR vs using whatever abilities our 2 guild leaders have. This is pretty damn strong. This increases my paranoia that Mafia has powerful roles as well as the potential of third party existing.

Im thinking 12v4v1 with town having a split faction dynamic as a strong potential and basically approaching the game with that mindset. I feel like 13v4 is a pretty tough balance.

In the meta here, a 1x Strongman would simply modify the NK, it's not its own separate action. So, no, I really don't think that's in the cards.

I would guess no, since the setup only mentions town members needing to be recruited to use abilities.

Technically possible, but I don't even know when the last game was with a killing 3P. I think it's very unlikely given the meta here.

Even granting all of that, it still doesn't lead me to the conclusion that there will be a death tonight. From my perspective, we should take what Mikal said about no NK NP1 at face value. He's not a bastard mod.

How the game is going I am more critical of the low content players. I see a lot of interactions as potential TvT and I see the culture of this site as wolves coasting into later day phases. Outside of Mestari's situation and some pressure on Thoth I am not seeing much contention.

Your post pinged me in calling out me specifically for low participation while ignoring a large chunk of the player base that has the same issue. Small thing sure. Its understandable given that I was voiced as a recruitment target (and kinda funny how little thought was given to the idea of me rejecting recruitment) but it is of note. I have not seen direct pressure and hunting from you but rather passively casting shade and after a pretty soft push with a vote from me you are very survival focused.

If you would like to resolve my concerns we can talk it out. I would be very interested in hearing who you think should be the focus. I think most players would agree with my reasoning on Luna, Wylted, and Mestari as well as my thoughts on guilds functioning but if you see scum motive in me feel free to point it out as well. Its not exactly a smart play as a wolf to dig in on a slot nobody is looking at while multiple hard trains exist unless you think one of them is on my mafia team and I am dismantling pressure tangentially.

Noted. I do not know the meta here at all.

While you are here if I could pick your mind on the subject of flavor. I am seeing a lot of demands for people to claim who they are as the character in the game. I generally look at flavor as NAI but on this site is that a thing? Bad alignments get the bad characters and good alignments get the good ones?

Not really. You see all kinds of theme splits on this site. Sometimes it is just good vs bad, but the majority of the time it's not. People here just tend to be eager to push for claims. It's a part of the meta that I don't particularly like, but it's a natural consequence of most games here being role madness.

I do love role madness.

I quite honestly hate when flavor is AI. If it was hard AI right now we could force a mass flavor claim and likely nail a scum with it. Even if they were champion level players just them not knowing the show could get them killed which would kinda be bullshit.

While I am not opposed to pressing such an advantage I do not like that it may exist in the slightest.

alr yall I know how I'm reading people but I'm having trouble articulating/putting pen to paper- this feels like an assigned essay than anything fun. For the past few hours ive just been sitting at my desk fidgeting like the kid from the ADHD studies, checking my phone, or I've just been wandering around my apartment doing other things to try and clear my mind. I've gotten nothing accomplished and I feel burnt out. I'm sorry. I know you people wonder why I'm not always locked in while playing mafia (because you've seen me do great things when focused) and my answer is that I can only focus when I get lucky enough to be in the right headspace. Just the way I am

So you get the abridged version of my read list

Lunatic and Wylted are obviously town confirmed.

Townreading Mestari for various things I find towny, even if I ignore the thing he told me not to townread him for (feels a little egotistical tbh- "you don't know what I can pull as scum!" and yet every time I've seen someone give that line they're town- like town is just more likely to express that kind of ego). The frustration with Lunatic outing himself. Noting Thoth's likely slip. Asking people for input/activity. I think the first and last ones can be faked, but combined, they look better. I also hate the wagon on him at the start. You can't tell me mafia wasn't trying for an early opportunity/being opportunistic about one. Just too random of a wagon

Townreading Rex for his failure to see that he was invited by one of the faction leaders, so he's obviously not paying attention to his discord. Beyond that there's not much else.

Whiteflame was the one who pointed out that Rex could be town for not noticing his invite. It's a good point on Rex but it doesn't really clear Whiteflame. He can buddy with Rex, but atm there's no evidence of it. He does have a lot of good posts. The refutation of Thoth's strategy idea to not recruit was good, and his post against softing. Combine this with how he wants to stave off the VTNL discussion for later and he's someone who picks his battles based on what he thinks is the most efficient use of his time. And I do think not wanting to waste time is pretty townie. Whiteflame is really good at faking his town behavior when he's scum, but this is so far a good sign. Slight town.

Going to Thoth, proposing we discuss whether or not we should soft feels weak- you'd think he'd want to actually give a pro-soft or anti-soft stance and then ask others for input. Instead, he just looks for town approval. Feels like a fake contribution. And his idea on recruiting is just bad. With Mestari's VTNL idea I could at least see where's he's coming from- here I'm a little baffled. The elephant is of course his post about how Mestari is a fearkill, and that does look like a slip. Thing is, Thoth is weird. He is baffling. He gets frequently mislynched or almost mislynched off of saying the weirdest shit. I've seen similar situations, the question is if this is too weird even for him. I do lean yes and that he's scum but I want his claim before going for a lynch.

more coming. I slightly scumread Helz and Pie, feel conflicted on Alyssa and Kohai. null on everyone else- although Casey's posted more and I need to re-evaluate her

You think that mafia might be able to kill even if they don't have access to the factional NK? I think that's highly unlikely tbh.

They could poison if they have a Poisoner, I suppose.

ISO #554 •••

I know that my explanation that I mixed up Helz and Mestari sounds like the dog ate my homework, but it's true. I saw Helz going on about how he had studied Mafia theory in depth, confused him with the only other person in this game that I haven't played with before, and, since I bought what Helz said about knowing this game inside and out, I inferred that Mestari must be scary good.

If I had heard that in scum chat, I would have said that I asked Mikal in DMs during signups who Mestari was and he told me that Mestari is an old-school player who scum were scared of like they fear Pie today. I know Mikal was around back in the DDO days, so I doubt anyone would have batted an eye at Mikal thinking Mestari had aura even if they never played.

The main character's younger sister. I'll wait for people familiar with the series to weigh in, but that's a solid enough character claim for me rn.

Not fully caught up yet, but I saw this and I've got to give my thoughts.

For those who do not know, this is the lead's (Sung Jin-woo) sister. She is a substantial character in the show, and especially with 17 players here, I'm not surprised she'd show up in this game. That being said, she runs a bit contrary to the basic mechanic, namely the whole "Guild recruitment" aspect as well as the power activation. To my knowledge, Sung Jin-Ah is not and never becomes a Hunter. She doesn't have a rank, so her being recruited and gaining a PR is a little strange. On the other hand, I suspect scum include some boss monsters, which also shouldn't play well with the recruiting mechanic.

Maybe I'm just getting too deep into mod psych and theme knowledge, but I'm still debating with myself over this one. I don't see Mikal giving this as a fake claim to scum if she was the only outlier in this respect, either.

Note: I'm not calling for you to claim your role, as I don't think that would help anyway.

It's interesting that you say that. I tried reading up on the character and found that the wikis and other information I could find didn't say very clearly how big a character she was. I even asked ChatGPT (someone's probably going to try policy lynching me for that) how important a character Sung Jin-Ah is, and when I don't trust something ChatGPT says, my first sanity check is to repeat the question to see whether or not it changes its answer. Sure enough, it did, repeatedly.

I still do not understand why we are treating flavor as AI. I do not know the series. I hate AI flavor as a function in games but I have yet to hear from anyone that its some kinda norm here that bad alignments get bad flavor characters and such.

Lets just mass claim if there is some AI bullshit to it or lets get away from this absurd tangent that has no value to solving if that is the case.

It is the norm here, but not an enforced one. There have been games where the protagonists are scum.

Flavor analysis is considered legitimate on here, which I think it's generally frowned upon or banned on MU. Some people, myself included, think we could do to rely less on it, but it's still part of our meta.

There is usually some kind of themed split. For example, in my harem drama game, the scum were scheming consorts who weren't motivated by love for the emperor. Usually, the split isn't disclosed and it's one element of analyzing role claims. Roles can also be linked to characters through flavor as well. However, it's usually a small part of play and scum are usually provided at least some safe fake claims.

In a show largely centered on a single character, there aren’t a lot of other characters I’d consider “major” or “main,” but there are some who are more central to the narrative or make more regular appearances. I’d put her in the latter category. Shes not super important to the plot (unless you watch some YouTube videos that… recontextualize their relationship), but she shows up a lot.
