Yeah, many are not good at understanding how good they actually are. Actually re-reading your game after it ends to understand what you were correct and incorrect about does wonders. Being honest with yourself about when you took hard positions and what about can show you what tells actually work for you. But these things require actual work. Small amount of players that are willing to actually train and improve.
I think I will be a bit of a culture clash D1. Seems like a number of people will want to just quick hammer. At that point might as well have had a RNG kill and flip N0 or just start with N0 night actions. Seems like a waste and I love the challenge of hunting with zero flips and mech knowledge.
I really do think its very possible to identify clear differences in behaviors D1 though. I outlined one with exactly how it works and why it exists but there are more. People not knowing how to hunt D1 does not translate into D1's being worthless.
Even in the method you outlined you assume that mafia will fake their reads in such a way that gives them away. My stance is, why would they? There's no pressure to do anything. Bad mafia give themselves away DP1. I don't cater my strategy to beating players who are so capable of beating themselves. Good mafia do not take lines that expose themselves DP1. I cater my strategy to beating good mafia players.

Someone thats overtly hedgy and passive is also an indicator. If you have an ultra aggressive player that either is power town or power wolf and they kick their feet up to slack through the day that does say something itself. They are meta obligated to push and as they push they can be seen with this tell I described that not many really understand.
For someone to avoid the tell they would have to understand the tell exists. This is why I said I was shooting myself in the foot explaining it pre-game. I could go much more in depth but would rather revisit this post game if you want to unpack what I see as true alignment indicators for the game of mafia.
