Should Lindsay Clancy be convicted of murder?

Started by Kohai ·

Lindsay Clancy is on trial for killing her three children. Her guilt is not in question. Clancy argues she should be found not guilty due to insanity.

She’s guilty

The prosecutor convincingly shown that she was not criminally insane at the time the killing took place. Multiple lines of evidence, such as her research, text messages, and behavior show that this was pre meditated

Criminally insane people can still plan out their actions to some extent, though the amount of planning is probably limited. I still think sanity is more likely than not given that psychosis was not diagnosed until after the fact, but this is complicated a bit by Massachusetts putting the burden of proof on the prosecution to prove sanity.

Person must be insane to commit such crime in the first place

I dont think insanity counts as defense for anything, and this was obviously intentional. Besides, to commit such a crime, person must be insane in the first place, so excuse of insanity becomes pointless.

Make an example of her.

I believe someone being unbaptised means the first priority is to offer her a baptism first before legal execution. I believe this is how Bible frames a justified Christian death penalty, by reading between the lines. She's already baptised Catholic so first rinse her dry for psychiatric research.

Offer her a 1-shot at confession to a Priest and then end her life. simple as. job done. All legal, in a utopia of course.

She's too selfish and evil to accept the death penalty she deserves. Sadly for her, she will realise fellow female prisoners don't go so easy on a child killer, she share that no-go age of victim with male prisoners...

I'm not quite sure what being Baptized as Catholic has to do with this.

Forced confession is worthless. For confession to be effective it needs to be voluntary and with a true contrite heart.

I actually disagree here. I don't think she is worthy of the death penalty.

Fair. So just to steel man your position your policy would be death penalty + have her do confession before a Catholic priest prior to execution?

This is because you don't view life morally despite whatever religion you claim to adhere to. You view it from a lens of sadistic justice.

This is the irony of leftist 'mercy', it fails to do what must be done for the worst criminals. Reread your Tanakh, if you really are serious about it. It doesn't leave you with a framing of 'too good for death penalty'.
