This is an interesting way to look at it, and it made me curious. Firstly, I'd image that those that tend to win debates stick around for longer, so they would tend to be farming wins from people that end up losing a few and possibly disappearing, so we probably wouldn't just see a 50-50 split constant from active members, but higher percentage of wins from those that are active. If that is the case ultimately, I wonder then if on a long enough timeline we'd see The Pareto Principle true in this case, similarly to how strangely accurate it seems to be in business and other areas. In other words, would we eventually see 80% of debate wins come from about 20% of the community? Just a glance at the top 50 of the leaderboard (and I realize this isn't perfect cuz of legacy stats but if we assume it stayed consistent) then without actually crunching the numbers, this does seem quite plausible and likely.

This probably only interests me, but I find it quite amusing.

On this day (July 11th), exactly one year ago, DebateCraft went live!

It has been a fun, exciting, and interesting year, and I'd like to take this opportunity to reflect on everything we have been able to accomplish, and thank everyone for their contributions.

I'd like to thank everyone who has done a debate, posted a thread, made a reply, or even simply visited the site to read a post or glance at a debate. Every contribution has added something meaningful to the growth of the site and its community, and I am forever grateful for everything that everyone has been able to contribute.

I'd like to thank Mikal, Savant, Kohai, and Whiteflame, just to name a few of the people that have made substantial contributions to the site lately, and that I have had the privilege to work with in the past year. There are so many others that have made contributions, big and small, but nonetheless meaningful and important to me and this community, and I only wish I could name every single person and all the wonderful ways everyone has been able to impact our past to provide for an even greater future.

The site has a bright future with all of the amazing features that have been added, from the UltraRated debates, Database section, and Big Issues, just to name a few, and I'm super excited for all the potential new ideas to be added in the future.

The site looks amazing, and while there is work to be done, and I'm excited for all the conversations to be had with the community moving forward, I am confident that the foundations are set for an awesome and bright future for DebateCraft.

We have made progress with our marketing aspects via our Youtube Channel and I am excited to keep on exploring new opportunities there and elsewhere. Every DebateCraft member is welcome and encouraged to reach out to DebateCraft admins and moderators to assist with new videos, whether this be making a creative vision a reality, working on a video series concept, and especially doing Live Debates!

Thank you so much to everyone who contributes to this community and to this site. I am super excited for the future of DebateCraft!

Typically (in sports mostly I believe but it probably exists in other places too like art/media), inaugural HoF classes follow a slight different convention than other years, for example having more initial members elected in (so like 5 in the first year to recognize founding fathers, greatest impact players, or be more holistic in recognition etc, I believe we did do 5 members the first year on DDO and then 3 every year after that), and/or having some slightly different categories etc, it might be worth considering that, the one year anniversary is July, 11th, so we have time, but just figured I'd mention it, though it's not a big deal cuz the site is so young so it might be a moot thing.

In any case, I am going off the grid for about 2 weeks for my first vacation in about 8 years so I at least want to nominate some key members at the very least before I missed my chance.

Hey DebateCrafters!

I am very excited with the growth and development of the site and want to extend my sincerest gratitude to everyone that continues to help make it possible. Whether that's our devs, our mods, or our debaters, everyone helps our growth and to make DebateCraft grow into the best website and debating/forum/creativity platform possible.

To that end, my particular major area of focus is our Youtube channel, which functions as a content and marketing arm of the website. It has been very exciting to see our channel grow and I am very excited to announce that we just hit 400 subscribers! Thank you to everyone who watches our videos, and comments, likes and is now subscribed. Every view, like, and comment makes a huge difference.

I'd like to point out that DebateCraft and especially the Youtube channel are about debate, but it's also about being a platform for more than that. We want to showcase Debate, Competition and Creativity, and so to that end, we host videos about debates, political conversations, and video games - to simply name a little bit of the content hosted so far. Included in the creativity category, are now video game music videos that I have made, that I am now repurposing for our channel. I am very happy to see them being watched and very excited for the future of the Youtube channel, but more importantly, DebateCraft.com. The website continues to grow and I can't wait to see what the future has in store as we continue to develop new and fun ways for the community to explore everything it has to offer.

I'm sure it can be, and it is often tricky to discern to what degree these situations should be used for that purpose. I suppose it's worth mentioning that the next site ad vid is more controversial for that reason.

Well, that Browns game was embarrassing. Team probably came in with a bit too much unearned swagger after domination against the Lions and Commanders. Good to get humbled early in the season to get things in order and focus on the long season grind. Go Packers!

That was a tough game for me to watch, cuz of course I want to see both teams lose. I was struck by how much more laissez-faire the draft of DebateCraft's Code of Conduct is than DebateArt's CoC

It's definitely fair to say that my own general preference is a laissez-faire approach. This is just a starting point though, our mods and admins will adjust the policies accordingly to the needs and desires of the DebateCraft community, as we grow and evolve.

Nope. Though I'm a bit amused by theories that I was an under the radar owner/dev of that site, I really never was.

DebateArt was short-lived. What makes you think DebateCraft will fare better? I don't mean this as a rhetorical question. I want to know what's changed.

That's a good question. I don't have an answer like: 'last time was XYZ (Since I can't really speak to the details of DebateArt) but this time will be ABC'. So I will just say that we have a team that is committed, and perhaps more importantly, accessible. You can reach us all regularly and easily to talk about any aspect of this. I believe that makes a big difference and certainly helps create an environment of potential success.

The Packers got it done big time against a good Lions team.

Also, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers got it done today.

Turning out to be an intriguing season so far.

"Crafters" seems decent.

I like it. It's short and simple, seems like a decent way to go. I'm sure this will resolve itself organically, based on whatever Crafters happen to use. I do certainly like it better than "DebateCraftians" haha

I would suggest Debatecraftsmen, but: (1) it's too long; (2) it's andronormative and Debatecraftsperson is even more unwieldy.

Yup, I'm excited for it. We have some great content already in the works, but I'm even more excited for everything else the community comes up with.

I was already hyped for the season before the Packers got Micah Parsons, but now I'm super hyped.

It has been a fast moving and incredibly exciting first 2 months. As we near the 2 month birthday of DebateCraft, I just wanted to extend my gratitude towards all of you, and let you know how excited we are to continue to develop DebateCraft.

First of all, I want to thank our team. I'm on the phone with Mikal a couple times a week talking plans. I want to thank Savant, who has been amazing, and getting in a meeting with him every week gets me stoked for our upcoming updates. I want to thank Whiteflame as I'm working with him on our Youtube content, beyond just the moderation aspects he works on already.

I also want to thank David, Ragnar, Bullish, Leaning, and everyone who contributes their time and efforts towards DebateCraft. At the risk of being cliche, I may be the owner of DebateCraft, but this website is yours. The will of the community will shape the direction of the site. Unlike in years past, I fully believe we now have the opportunity to design and create the online debate space into exactly what we want, and I couldn't be more excited to simply be part of the team.

As we move forward, we are excited for the planned updates to the site. Including the recently released Ultrarated debates (Brilliant work by Savant btw), and then future rated-debate seasons; with leader boards, playoffs and eternal bragging rights. We're also excited to see our Mafia community grow, and long term updates that include site currency, opinions/polls sections, more customization for the profiles like badges/titles, and lots of other things!

Currently we are working on our Youtube channel, and will soon begin to reach out to grow our new but enthusiastic community.
