Alright, I'm caught up, but I gotta be honest, I'm tired af and don't really have the brain power to engage deeply rn. I will say that I wouldn't expect scum Wylted to enter the game with a fake PGO claim like he did. The idea about intentionally splitting the vote is interesting. Fwiw, I haven't voted yet. Will have more thoughts in the AM

Casey_Risk

Checking in. I have no theme knowledge this time around, in fact I had never even heard of the show before today. It does seem interesting, however.

I don't see the point of skipping night 1 if a Mafioso is lynched today. Seems to me like that would make the game too swingy, and that, if anything, night 1 should be skipped if a townie is lynched.

I feel a deep, instinctive, visceral revulsion towards games that are not full of power roles, but it's probably for the best that I play some because I think reading behavior is both the most important aspect of Mafia and the one I am worst at.

This setup still seems to me like the winner is determined purely by RNG, but I suppose that intricate game design is none too important for a test of the host dashboard.

Nice to meet you. My Blood on the Clocktower game could use another player.

Someone needs to explain to me how and why this setup behooves any strategy other than rolling the dice and praying to RNGesus.

Nice to meet you as well. I'm not too much of a fan of rolemad games and tend to prefer technical ones like this setup, but it appears that I might be in the minority on that one. Regardless, when there's no power roles, all it means is that town needs to rely on behavioral reads to win (i.e. the old-fashioned way). No matter the mechanics, scum players still fundamentally have a different mindset than town players and that shows over time in their posting.

Do you have any reads in particular right now?

Just as a heads up, most of the games on here are rolemad. We're de facto a fairly insular community and that's just how the meta here has developed. That said, I do think having an all-vanilla game like this is a refreshing change of pace

Casey_Risk
Mostly has to do with my admittedly limited experience with awesome in previous games. Not terribly unusual for him to vanish at weird points for long stretches of time, particularly after casting a vote. This one just seems particularly throw-away.

How so? It's basically just RVS. Being a random throwaway is the point

Test

So what value is there in doing this and then leaving the vote up? I get that it doesn't put me all that close to a lynch, but if your goal was to test the system, you got your answer.

This response to an RVS feels strange to me

Honestly, forgot this was happening today and didn't get a ping, glad I suddenly remembered before I called it a night.

Small but interesting group in this one. Odd way to balance the game regardless of that first lynch. If scum get lynched first, we skip the NP, so... scum lose out on an NK? I don't get that, seems to just dig their hole deeper since there are no other night actions. The other caveat makes a little more sense at least, otherwise the game could just end NP1 with scum reaching parity on their first NK.

A correct lynch on D1 is always bad for scum, but I don't think it would generally be the end of the world in this setup unless they just play really stupidly, considering that everyone is a vanilla

Nice to meet you all. This is my first game in a few years, but I'm decently experienced. A few things to note about the setup:

  1. Scum are heavily incentivized to quickhammer, since they can kill the scum player that made the hammer as well as the town player that wasn't voting for the elimination. As such, be cautious of putting someone at E - 1.
  2. Assuming no bussing, every town player needs to agree on a scum suspect to secure an successful elimination.
  3. Town's greatest problem during Day 1 is probably the time limit. Keeping #2 in mind, even a single town player hesitating for too long can be enough to sink an otherwise successful elimination. While activity is always important, the town-scum ratios here make it especially crucial.

Welcome! I think you are going to be a great addition to our community! These are all solid points imo. Point 1 in particular

Casey_Risk

Sorry for being late, I genuinely meant to be on earlier, but I didn't get any sleep at all the other night and absolutely crashed last night, sleeping in much later than I meant to. Catching up rn

Casey_Risk

GG, congrats to scum on their win! Sorry I've been so inactive lately, I'm going to try to be better in the future.

My two cents on modkills ending the day: they should if the modkilled player is town but should not if they are scum. That way it will always hurt the team of the player who got modkilled, thus maximally disincentivizing rule breaking.

Do me a favor: ask Pie what the order of operations are on Lightning Rod vs. Vanillaizer and on Vanillaizer vs. Tracker. Spoiler: one of our roles processes before the Vanillaizer and the other doesn’t.
I am about to ask but I do have a problem here. Yesterday I was flatly told that Vanillaizer happened before any form of redirection.

I do not think you would take such a hard position and not expect me to verify given it would be an utterly damning verifiable lie in this situation but I got told the opposite which lines up with what Rex is saying.

Try asking again. I specifically asked Pie about the OoO regarding tracker, lightning rod, and Vanillaizer, and got told that lightning rod would precede Vanillaizer

I don't expect anyone else to be on at this time other than Luna who's dead now, anyway. I'm only here because I can't sleep. Ironic, given my role, or perhaps fitting. No dream this time.

I do not see a world where someone visits you as town. Even if someone thought you were scum thats still a play town would want to hear you unpack more mech info.

I will have to chew on this but hopefully some mech result will show that visit.
Have you considered that the person who visited me was probably scum?
Obviously. I was pointing out that it must be.

There is the -or- where you are the scum and you faked a worthless read pool to cover your actual role. What you claimed is a perfect fake claim imo. I can not question you about your targeting because your information is randomized, you have a pool of multiple people which throws the town a curve ball while giving results hardly above RNG, and even if the town flips people in your pool you have both deniability if the flip is town as well as a stronger FOS on a second player.

To be direct right now I am trying but I am unable to think of a more effective claim to make as scum.

Sure, I understand where you're coming from completely, and I'll even add that I have seen scum successfully pull off a dreamer claim in a previous game I hosted (the one Luna was talking about earlier). The two things I will say in my defense: (1) as I mentioned earlier, I did actually soft my role in my very first post this game, and (2) I revealed my results immediately at the start of DP2, when I couldn't have known that no one visited me (and if I were scum, or even if I weren't, I think me being visited was probably the safer assumption than me not being visited).

Of the two living players in your NP1 dream, who do you have a preference for?

I'm 60/40 in favor of Bullish. He still feels different to me somehow compared to the last game. That said, part of the reason I was leaning town on Mikal was the theory that he and WF got paired due to being strong magnets. Now that we know that that's not the reason (though it is a striking coincidence), I am slightly less trusting of him.

Huh. So I guess that explains why Mikal and I were kicked out of ours relatively early in the NP. Guess it wasn’t something that could be prevented by the NK.

This is what Banana's role description says:

Each night, prior to the end of the NP, you may choose two players. Those two players will be able to chat privately with each other during the following DP (and only during this DP). You may not select yourself.

So that doesn't seem indicative of anything

That's fascinating, and also has huge implications for the game if true. It likely clears Shining and also makes a Mikal/WF team seem much more likely.

I do realize that Rex could just be lying here, but he's basically putting himself in a 50/50 with WF here. I don't see the point in doing so if he's scum.

Think what you will of Mikal and I being on a team, but I still think Rex is town. If anything, I think this basically town confirms him. Scum would have asked more questions. But no, this in no way implicates me. See my response to him above and feel free to ask Pie yourself.

I did actually ask Pie myself, and he confirmed what you said: a Lightning rod would precede a Vanillaizer. So that checks out.

I have no idea what she was thinking, and now we can't know. We don't know why she picked Mikal and me, nor why she let any discussion of "magnets attracting" continue for so long when everyone was saying a role like this would be auto-townread, which meant she could very well have garnered support for her lynch of choice. As for her being the NK, she hinted at a PR that had obtained (and likely would obtain more) information. Scum would probably have been less likely to kill her if she'd just claimed.

Yeah, I do remember her saying something about having information but sitting on it for later. I guess she wanted to keep scum guessing, but that's probably what got her killed
