to me, it seems each person has goals, and then gets happy when they achieve them.

Lets say you have some goal, and you achieve it, and now you are happy.

Okay, what now? Like, what do you do after you achieve all your goals?

And if happiness is conditioned upon achieving a goal, wouldnt it be much simpler to only have goals you can realistically achieve quickly? Or is it the thrill of long pursuit which gives more happiness?

And what happens when you run out of goals to achieve?

If life is all about chasing goals, then you are met with only 3 possible outcomes:

A. You dont achieve goal

B. You achieve a goal, and now must move to achieving next one

C. You achieve all your goals

But none of these lead to any permanent happiness.

A is basically no happiness. B is basically being happy for a short time before moving to next goal. C means you no longer have goals to achieve, so nothing to do.

Well, C could be impossible for some, but then only A and B remain.

So to me, it seems that goal chasing is entirely pointless. Its actually unwinnable game where even if you win once, the game just restarts and you must play again and again.

Also, besides me trying to search for a wife or girlfriend at first, I can just focus on being useful to society which will keep me busy with learning new things.
