Thoth

I would like everyone to vote Yea or Nay on:

Trimming future day phases to 48 hours

Trimming future day phases to 36 hours and night phases after this one to 12 hours

Please let me know if you think either of these will be a problem for you.

Thoth

Not to interject myself into the game, but I am thinking about shortening future day phases to 24 or 48 hours. With more people, 72 hours would probably be great, but here I think it will tend to feel drawn-out. The problem then, especially with 24-hour DPs, would be that half the time would be night unless I also shortened the night phases, which could make it hard for some people to get their night actions in, depending on their windows of availability.

Thoughts?

Signing off, gonna be pretty busy tomorrow with my ongoing wrestling match with life upon a cold blood-soaked arena suspended over the black void of nihilism.

Being meguca is suffering.

Vote Count

Kohai (2/5) | Rex, Casey

Casey (2/5) | Pie, whiteflame

While I'm at it, I might as well add that the day will end in a no-lynch if nobody has the majority of votes. I think that's standard on here, but I never thought to put it in the OP.

Thoth

Episode 1 ends at midnight Central time on 23 November. With eight players alive, it takes five votes to lynch. Be warned that there are oddities surrounding voting which apply only for this day phase. I first saw them in a dream... or something.

Players

  2. Mag1cman
  3. ILikePie5
  4. Kohai
  5. RexFavilla

This setup is based on the 2011 anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and does not include lore from movies except for the first two, which are recuts of the show.

Rules

Standard rules apply:

  1. Do not copy-paste from your role card. Do not post anything that looks like it was copy-pasted from a role card. This rule does not apply to quoting one or a few words to convey basic information, e.g., your role and character. The reasonable person test applies. If you are not sure whether or not you paraphrased enough, ask me. Do not use generative AI, e.g., ChatGPT, to paraphrase your PM. Avoid talking about the formatting of role PMs.
  2. Do not edit or delete messages.
  3. Do not post or like posts while dead.
  4. Until the game is over, do not discuss it outside the approved channels, i.e., the day thread, moderator PMs, and faction chats.
  5. Do not use cryptography or otherwise post anything in the day thread with the intention of obscuring it so that only specific player(s) can read it.
  6. Be as bitchy as you want unless and until someone asks me to cool things down.
  7. I reserve the right to add commonplace or common-sense rules at any time.

Mod notes

  1. As usual on here, days will be 72 hours maximum and nights will be 24 hours maximum, but phases might end early.
  2. I prefer to do mod communications through Discord. DebateCraft messages work too.
  3. Setting your Discord status to invisible is strongly encouraged.
  4. All roles were assigned randomly using random.org. If there are game mechanics which require randomness, random.org will supply it. It should go without saying that randomness is random, but I might as well say it, if only to set a standard.
  5. Scum have been provided with fake-claims and/or information to help them concoct fake-claims. There may be anti-claim mechanics.
  6. There may be at least one role with a hidden ability. Your role card will mention it if you have one. Hidden abilities will be revealed with your role flip and may appear in results of investigative abilities.
  7. Ask questions about how roles work through Discord or DebateCraft messages. I will not answer such questions posted publicly. I will only answer questions which involve your own role, your scum partner's role if you are scum, or flipped roles. I will try to answer questions about how hypothetical roles would interact with roles in those three categories. You are implored to ask questions. The worst response I can give is that I cannot answer your question, which is not meant to dissuade you from asking more questions.
  8. Town win when all threats to town have been eliminated. Mafia win at scum parity, i.e., when there are at least as many scum alive as non-scum. If there are neutrals, they have their own win conditions.
Thoth

The eighth signup spot is open until midnight Central. Roles will be sent on Discord starting a few minutes later.

Thoth

I might as well put myself at the other end of the mod queue, if only in hopes that I can get ten players for Culture by my next turn.

Thoth

So I was right to townread whiteflame early on. Around the end of DP2, I started questioning my townread on him a little, and by DP3 I was almost ready to swap my townread to Pie because I didn't believe that scum would have blocked anyone other than Kohai to guarantee a kill. I don't think I would have figured out on day 1 that whiteflame was Cop.

After I died, I read around and figured that Gwi-Ma was a reasonable fit for Silencer, what with his hypnosis. I'm surprised that nobody brought that up, but I had plenty of time to find that out while alive and did not.

I figured that scum would suspect the Soldier claim of being a transparent attempt to bait the night kill, and I also figured that they would probably kill me anyway, just in case. My fear was that I would live to day 3 and not be around to warn the remaining townie not to vote themselves and demand that scum quickhammer, although I suppose that the last scum would not quickhammer if they did not believe my claim and probably would have killed me beforehand if they did. That role creates all sorts of dynamics at final three that I really did not want to deal with.

Thoth made a bad play, fakeclaiming soldier (especially when he had TMI'd his Vanilla earlier); I think if the game were more active, he would've been mislynched for it. Or if Pie had spotted the DP1 TMI at any point.

I knew that I could be pressured for TMI'ing Vanilla, and I was going to respond that I thought Lunatic might be Vanilla because (1) I have seen people say that Vanilla is their favorite role and (2) I have only ever seen Soldier in small setups. My concern would have been that whiteflame would find out that Soldier is a Werewolf role called Parity Hunter and realize where I got the idea.

Thoth
Given the number of games that have been based on east Asian content, I might retool my design to change up themes, but I would love a Madoka Magica game.

We have always been at war with Eastasia.

Thoth

I was at the top of the mod queue before the current game, but ten players was non-negotiable for Culture and it seemed unlikely that I would get that many signups any time soon, so I let Mag1c run K-Pop Demon Hunters ahead of me to get the Mafia ball rolling again after about a month of inactivity. The Culture Mafia thread is still up, and I'm not sure how management is supposed to handle that, but I suppose I can hope that getting ten signups is viable by my next turn in the mod queue.

I need seven players, but eight is fine too.

Thoth
you need my help with the setup or nah? otherwise you can just go ahead, no need to ping me

No help needed. I'm just not sure how the mod queue is supposed to handle starting signups for a new game while my current signups thread is in cryostasis. Should I let Culture mafia signups languish and bump, or necro, the thread during my next round in the mod hopper?
