My parents had a custody hearing on the same day that my entire class had a field trip scheduled to the courthouse. I had taken time off school and wasn't even aware of the field trip.

So I'm sitting in the gallery, hear the door open, turn around and think oh hey that's my history teacher.

He proceeds to lead my entire grade into the courtroom in a long line, who all begin sitting down, one row after another, to publicly view the court proceedings. My classmates spot me, some wave, some point, most start talking to each other with animation. I went white as a sheet.

My mom jumps up and starts saying "THIS IS TRAUMATIZING FOR HER" in a loud voice, and she was not wrong but when I tell you I just wanted to sink through the floor and die lol.

there was one time on DART I did, then I realized how cringe that is so I unliked it, then whoever I was arguing with must’ve been smoking me bc they had a lot more likes so I got insecure and liked my comment again

Discord is boomin' but DC itself is relatively slow save for a few active users. I think part of it is just the appeal of fast chatting. A chatbox on DC could attract some more activity that could spill over into threads and broaden the active user pool.

I don't think it's any surprise that a very religious man would see an unexplained phenomenon through the lens of his religion.

Killing your child with your own faith seems like it should be the most sacrilegious thing a believer can do.

I sincerely hope such people are just that ignorant, but it seems so vain to eschew medicine for your child in selfish pursuit of a hallelujah.

The NRSV will be constantly updated as scholars piece together a clearer picture of language and history. That's why I prefer it.

New Revised Standard Version is the only one I use. Oxford Annotated one specifically, with articles from scholars discussing historical context, translations, different manuscripts and what they indicate about which passages are authentic, etc. There's an updated edition to the NRSV but I don't have it yet.

For most of my adult life my true passion has been Therapeutic Horseback Riding, formally called Hippotherapy, which uses horseback riding as therapy for a broad range of special needs, developmental disabilities, and illnesses, typically with children. I ran a therapeutic riding program for over 30 years, performed every role there is, from Program President to Mucking Stalls and Special Olympics Coach. What I loved most was always being in the ring working with the kids, I've worked as Certified Therapist, Leader, or Sidewalker, but the role I always loved most was performing the function that the Therapeutic Riding industry calls "Sidewalker". To me, it was a form of self-expression, I really do think of it as representing who I am.

I liked this post several months ago but it still is a great username backstory. Love it.

Currently taking care of my grandmother who is bedridden... her passion her whole life was horses, and there is a horse therapy program near us that I really long to take her to. Unfortunately it will probably never happen. Best I can do is fill her room with photos of the horses she used to own. Her favorite was a pinto she named Apache.

Well, 3 months late, but still.

I always dreamed of changing my last name if I ever got the time and money, but other things always just seemed to come up and it never happened. For personal reasons, I don't want my dad's last name, and I never married. In my youth I set my mind on changing my last name to Casting; in my adulthood, I just wanted a friendly, common-sounding last name for once, and wished it was Riley. Both my usernames here and on DART have been plays on those two.

We should believe they thought the end was near.

Just like modern Christians read Revelations and connect the dots to modern events, people of Jesus's age believed that the big important things were going to happen in their time, not some far-flung future that had no relevance to them.

When the years dragged on without event, we start to see coping scripture like 2 Peter, which is clearly trying to reassure Christians about an overdue parousia.

I think we have different social perceptions of white colonizers because the narrative for the past several centuries has been white colonists arrive, local populations suffer. If there was a different ethnicity that had done the same thing on the same scale, I'm sure we'd have different standards for them too. Not really about skin color inherently, just the power narratives we associate with skin color.
