First of all, the Democratic party (I'm guessing that's the party you meant?) has no stance on man vs bear because it was an internet meme and a small blip on the culture war radar, nothing more.

Second of all, women picking the bear does not mean men are worse than bears, it means those women fear strange men more than they fear strange bears.

Third of all, women sharing this opinion is not an assault on your rights because it's just fucking social rhetoric.

You're never going to achieve a fair comparison with the Catholic Church. There are like half a million clergy in the Catholic Church, of which maybe 4% were convicted of sexual assault. But MAGA revolves around a man who was convicted of rape in civil court and was recorded bragging about sexual assault.

And yet ... many people still affiliate with the Catholic Church; so the flak they preach about pedophilia being bad means nothing.

That depends on whether you believe the Catholic Church stands for pedophilia or whether you believe the Catholic Church stands for Christian teachings but erred in how it handled reports of pedophilia by its members.

Poor analogy. One is an imperfect church built around Jesus and the other is a cult of personality built around a rapist. One had bad members and the other has a bad leader. They're not the same.

Also people are always going to go after whatever wrongdoings are most relevant to them. Sort of like how you marginalize the failings of conservatives to focus on railing away at liberals -- the human brain looks for what is useful to its identity politics, and the sins of groups that are not as useful to that end kind of fade into the background.

Also, to be fair, I still hear the Catholic Church getting a ton of flak on both sides of the aisle for this.

Fact is you can usually get racial minority A to be racist toward racial minority B if you 1) make them feel like they're at least better than racial minority B or 2) make them feel like it earns them acceptance with a group of higher status. The belief that God is possible is a belief, not a lack of belief. So when I say I believe God is possible, should atheist reject such belief, he would be unjustified in rejecting it.

I've never seen an atheist claim that God is impossible. It's indefensible and the argument from lack of evidence is wildly more advantageous.

More to the point, even if an atheist did claim that God is impossible, that does not mean that atheism itself is the belief that God is impossible (or the lack of belief that God is possible).

So I've always understood canceling to refer to ostracism of prominent figures for perceived political incorrectness, and have viewed it as something the left mostly engages in. But increasingly I've heard people accusing the Trump administration of "canceling" Jimmy Kimmel and other figures, and also accusing JD Vance of encouraging the cancellation of anyone making inappropriate remarks about Charlie Kirk's killing.

Which leaves me wondering. Is canceling only ever something that happens to people not adhering to left-wing political correctness? What if someone is fired, shunned, boycotted, whatever, for not adhering to right-wing political correctness? Is this also cancel culture, or should we use a different word for it -- plain old censorship or suppression or ostracism -- because it's not coming from a place of sensitivity to minorities?
