I have a quick hypothetical question for everyone.

If Mikal somehow dies in this day/night cycle and we learn at the dawn of DP2 that he is scum, how badly are we going to be regretting sharing the information that we did, especially given that he can give advice to his scummate(s) after he dies if post-death scum chat works like in Ranger's Apprentice, which I bet it does?

No, cause that defeats the purpose of a fake claim. I think what happened here is that scum saw townies claiming Scarlet and they went along with it either via any fake claims they were given or just to buy time

I want other thoughts on a mass character claim. I would rather give value before I die

If you’re town, you’re are largest asset and townies will hopefully ensure you stay alive. If you’re scum, then mass claiming this early is a risk us townies cannot take

Fine, then I'll come clean: I am the TP, I can win with scum or town, and I'm good with the latter. Pesmerga was given to me as a fake claim, and yes, it literally does say all that in the claim - the only things I read off of the Wiki were his affiliations. My real character is Yuber. The PM questions whether I'm human or demon, I loathe True Runes yet wield one and pop into huge historical moments to wreak havoc. I'm the TP Survivor.

I can see a scenario where WF comes home tired from work, is asked to claim Toran/Scarlet, sees nothing to that effect in his PM, and reads from the wiki. I don't want to jump the gun here. The major point for me is that scum would be crazy to claim Toran affiliation. You've just pointed out an Empire character he could've fake claimed instead. There must be more Empire characters scum could use.

Maybe whiteflame and/or Rex poorly worded the fact that their character is loyal to the Empire now, i.e., at the cross-section in time our roles are based off of, and his membership in the New State Army is "current" as of the most recent canon. How far does the canon Suikoden timeline extend?

I will bet damn near anything on the fact TP cannot recruit. Max's PM basically implies it heavily. Toran is the one recruiting and that thematically makes sense. There is only one TP in this game I could think of and it would make more sense as a TP SK or something.

I think the whole TP thing is a distraction. It could literally be anything. I think you’re on the right page with the soft claims. Didn’t you say there could only be like 5-6 legit Scarlet Empire people? I think we’re up to like 7 or 8 now.

In my limited experience DP1 reads are worth nothing 70% of the time anyway

Imo the issue is the fact that he’s said a whole load of nothing, which fits his scum MO. The whole scum vs cult vs TP recruitment is a distraction. We don’t know this early. Also the fact that he’s town locked Mikal so early for basically no reason is very very odd. It’s almost like he’s just doing it cause everyone else was doing it. At least until I said it’s NAI and then he backtracked just now

It was based on their motives and behaviors as they related to DP1 where no one claimed their character and role

why scum can only recruit certain characters

what aspects of the game support the recruitment or cult mechanic

why Sanchez would be unrecruitable

Its all speculation, that I frankly dont care about atm tbh.

Tbh the whole TP vs Cult vs Scum having the recruiting mechanic is a waste of time. It's all speculation.

current guess one cultust at start with either a day recruit or a 1x lynchproof so the game doesn’t end too early.

it depends if cult gets night kills. i think they do cause I think they need some way of getting rid of those that can’t be recruited, makes the game flow a bit more normal as well

but if the don’t get night kills then I can see them starting off with more than one cultist

I agree. This is probably a lock. I don’t see a world where w!max claims out of the gate like that.

basically this ^ DP 1 is going to be the only time any sort of theme analysis could prove useful. So if we wanted to mass character claim or something that’s about the only real use I could see to discussing theme this day phase because dp2 and onward it pretty much goes out the window. Also we are still operating on theories about what the theme split is so while you may have happened to guess the theme split first try, chances are probably greater there is something we don’t know about or something more to the theme unless you think ref made a them split relatively easy to figure out.

I actually disagree with you on this. We were a millisecond away from winning the claim because we didn’t claim DP1 with the Yakuza. Character and role down the line helps determine your motives in DP1. If there is a Yakuza like role, we can use my strategy of finding the original scum. I thought it was pretty brilliant myself

I have a hard time seeing scum mikal just openly disclosing his thoughts on the theme split like that. He could be scum trying to throw us off, sure, but since he guessed the split in like post 11 multiple people have confirmed being in a similar category. His only motivation for doing that would be for town cred I suppose, and since this game has recruit mechanics I guess he could be doing that knowing that giving the theme split doesn't matter, but still feels like a bit of a stretch to me. 

It’s NAI to me. I’m having a hard time understanding why so many people townread him for this. I think they should be looked into right now over Mikal
