I still don't get the benefits. "If people push me they will be wrong, so let's preclude the possibility of any behavioral analysis being derived from said potential push."

Realistically, how much behavioral analysis do we get from something that is completely NAI? Do town never push town? Do mafia always blatantly push people and never bus? So much of this is dependent on the specific player. Also weren't you the one who said you don't like cluttered day phase ones? Seems like letting people go down this road is a lot of wasted posts for something that results in the end of being completely NAI. Also you are ignoring the other points I made about how this literally doesn't negatively effect me. If I thought I was a potential recruit target for the other guild member I can see your point, but again it was already wasted on me so I know they won't use it again on me. I can't be killed np1, and dying np2 isn't the end of the world. I can pass guild lead and I already know I am winning the recruit war assuming I didn't already recruit scum. Also I don't want town wasting power roles on me. All of this outweighs the "Maybe we can WIFOM catch scum being ultra agressive and pushing a lunatic dp1 mislynch" which is already extremely unlikely to happen anyway lol.

Wrong reads are still useful reads.

Sure but you are giving them WAY more credit for usefulness than they deserve lol.

How many times has town mislynched every single time until lylo then won the game? These are some of the most important wagons to analyze, and you stripped the tire off one before it even got going because you didn't want to spend time allowing the tracks to be laid.

I really disagree that they are "some of the most important wagons to analyze" but then again you haven't seen our current player base. It happens all the time where mafia don't even have to vote because town just hangs themselves dp1.

Lunatic
It's not complicated. If we mislynch we're going to go back and look at the wagon after knowing for a fact that the dead player is Town, and use that info productively, yes? So why not let a wagon build on a player who can confirm themselves as town before dying. You get to analyze the wagon and not mislynch. Fucking crazy idea.

Its unrealistic, I am not actually worried about being mislynched dp1 anyway. If this is your only argument the benefits of claiming far outweigh this. Knowing you I expect you to die on this hill though, so this should be fun.

Lunatic
Can we stop giving scum free info like the fact that the other guild leader attempted to recruit you? That says something about one of the confirmed town players. If we're going to just give a manuscript then speed lynch me instead. Trust me when I say to just let the structural components of the game go unspoken about for a day or two.

If you can make a valid argument as to why this negatively effects anything. Again you keep making broad statements not backed by actual arguments.

Lunatic
I don’t like Mestari’s tone, let’s get his full claim

Seems on par with him actually lol. I remember him having a massive ego.

Lunatic
Bro you've been around long enough to know that the optimal play is to hide mod confirmability as long as possible. You're rusty.
Like, I don't understand my guy. "I don't want us to waste time getting reads that may be alignment indicative on me when I can confirm myself later. Let's limit the mafia's ability to make mistakes, and it's okay because maybe town makes the mistake too!"

Instead of making broad statements, break down the facts here and risk/benefit analysis of what I am risking by claiming. I thought about this long before I claimed, since I had my role pm since yesterday. Like I said, mafia can't kill me night phase 1 so I got a free night phase anyway, plus if I do die I can pass guild leader anyway (also I already know I am beating the other guild since they attempted to recruit me np1 and wasted one of their recruits since I can't be recruited), I can't even die until np2 at the earliest, and I don't really care if they target me anyways. And like I said, you underestimate towns ability to fall into the trap you mentioned as well, in fact its almost more likely the earlier the game is. I would rather not people waste night actions based on faulty reads on me when we have scum to catch. Plus I am notoriously always scum read as town, and when I finally escaped that trap I rolled scum last game and won, so naturally I feel like I am going to get scum read again and it just feels like a waste of time and energy that I can focus on actually scum hunting.

Feel free to dis-agree or double down on your point, but I think there is merit to this decision.

Lunatic
Absolutely not. Mafia doesn't know who is mod confirmed town until recruited. Let them push someone who can mod confirm themselves later instead of telling the mafia it's a fucking no fly zone

Town is also pretty likely to fall into this trap, so I don't see major benefit to withholding personally.

I am going to go ahead and claim that I am Baek Yoonho, leader of the white tiger guild. I am one of the town confirmed players. Since I cannot die np1, I figure it's good to get this out of the way so we don't waste time potentially scum reading me. Its up to the other guild leader if they want to publicly out as well.

On a side note, I'm disregarding which guild wins in my personal consideration of whether I've "won" or "lost" this game. If town wins and my guild has less members, I win. I don't give a fuck what the Mod says.

As far as Mestari's point here, I am going to try and fulfill my win con and be the biggest guild, however if at any point not being the biggest guild becomes an issue between finding scum, I will 100% be okay with not getting first place if it means beating scum.

I totally get that. But I feel its more of a factor for turbo games. Some people dedicate a lot of time to games. When I go really try hard I probably spend 8 hours or so a day on the game. Having a day or two off inbetween day cycles makes that ok. When its nonstop every day by D3 I would be either burnt out and doing less or begging to get myself eliminated.

On here when people need a break they just take a game or two off. At least that's what I do. I tend to be a bit of a neurotic poster though since I work a graveyard shift and can post whilst at work.

Fast games does not = good games. Imo night cycles are not just about taking the minimum necessary time to do a night action but also gives players time to go about their real lives and enable time to participate in the day cycle when it starts.

Well this is the first game in a while where we will have over 9 players so it might impact activity and things a bit more to where we could use the break between phases. But usually its hard enough to get activity with our player pool especially once the "acitive posters" start dying. The pitt was a perfect example of that. Dp1 was very active, then all the active players died and the activity just kind of fell off a cliff. I have played on mafia universe where the activity is 10x that of what it generally is here. I usually consider myself pretty active but in those few I played there I was drowning, waking up to thousands of posts every day lol. Those games night phases were a welcome break.

Lunatic
Something I stay mindful of about night phases is that its not just about how long is needed for the player to do the thing. A big factor is also that people have lives. Having days off from playing mafia is important to some.

Sure I am all for having lives, but taking two seconds to send in a night action doesn't impede your life all too much. Being the last one to submit a night action and making the entire rest of the players base wait for you impedes their lives though lol

"Lynching"

Or we just realize that we are using a term to vote someone out of a game that’s been used for years and not make a big stink out of something for no reason. I like that idea the best.

Lunatic
I’ve played 30-plus-player games on Discord. I would like those here, but they would take too long, especially since we usually have 4-day DP/NP cycles versus 24-hour there. We would need to multitable, shorten phases, or add more kills to keep games from dragging forever. How did they keep big games tolerably short in the heyday of DDO?

3 Day long DP's and 48 hour night phases were always kind of the normal. We occasionally switched it up, but not often. Night phases slowly got shorter and shorter because it seemed entirely unnecessary for some one to take more than 24 hours for a night action.
