How do you know you didn't give scum (Mago) the daycop and they'll choose their scum partner and lie about getting an innocent? That basically wins them the game if I'm the mislynch this DP.

  3. 1x bodyguard - I can guard another player and die in their place
  4. NP1 I waived, as I only had two shots and didn't think I would be NKd
  5. NP2 I bodyguarded you

I guess I'm just having difficulty believing that you guys really thought scum!Mag1c would do something that dumb. I mean, he had the opportunity to hammer without even @ing Thoth, he didn't. He had the opportunity to say he didn't even see the Link claim when he hammered -- both his VTL and Thoth's claim were posted at 9:38 -- but he didn't. He could even have said he thought he was putting Thoth at L-1 instead of hammering. He had a lot of safer options he could've used than "I straight up got confused about who I was, oops".

I was operating off the idea of a Magoroth/Magic scum team, because I found the sudden Luna push strange. This meant that Magic hammered once Thoth claimed, because they panicked about the wagon reverting to Mago after the earlier floated Luna wagon failed to take root. That they were taking a gamble that Thoth would have an iffy claim and they could push a lynch through anyway and look better/more reasonable, but instead he claimed the protagonist, and they panicked a bit and wanted to make sure the lynch went through before the wagon evaporated.

I also thought the way Magic expected to be townread for it to be very scummy. You're right that it's a risky move for scum to pull, but if the expectation is that it's so crazy that you ought to be town read for it it's not. If Magic had come into this DP contrite for fucking up and claimed when subjected to pressure I feel like my scum read would have evaporated pretty quickly. It's the way he doubled down and acted like he had additional town cred for what was, at best, a colossal fuckup, and at worst a brazen hammering of a claimed critical character. It rubbed me the wrong way. I know if I made that kind of mistake I would be fucking embarrassed the next DP, not feel entitled to scream at other players to claim while refusing to claim myself. Hell, I feel a bit embarrassed now after Magic committed suicide. In retrospect I think I was tunneling Mago and scrapped my perspective of the game entirely to reassess who I was scum reading.

As an aside there were some other things I wanted to respond to, but this is the week from hell. I will try and get back to the thread later tonight.

So in other words, the takeaway is the same as what several of us have already said, that Banana was likely the target because she claimed a confirmable role. I said as much earlier. Not sure how that puts the spotlight on me, especially since it's been the prevailing opinion on why she was killed. This is such a weak sus, man.

I just kept reading over and over that the Banana kill means the scum team isn't competent. I don't buy that, I think a competent team could have killed her. People were restricting their POEs based on that and I think it's a mistake. Any sus of you will be a weak sus at this point of the game, you don't make obvious scum slips. But your POEs and arguments seem to most align with what I see as the overall scum 'push' this DP. Wylted and Mago seem to be going more against the grain and exploring options, Mago pushed back against the push for claims. Pie I tepidly town read because the death tunnel on Magic makes sense from my perspective. I don't think he's beyond faking that but it's just a long shot for me to see him as scum based on how he's acted this game, who he's pushed and how he's reacted. Thoth I think is town because he's Link. Luna seems sus to me and you just stick out part from POE and part from you generally aligning with him at crucial moments. It could be Luna/Mago. Maybe it could be Wylted, but I don't think he's playing scummy, he's very erratic and yolo-ish, which from what I've seen is his town meta.

the timing of your gif earlier when Mago claimed he saw me visit Banana felt pretty opportune.

It was a joke in response to a dramatic moment.

The argument that we should have done it sooner when he was already resolute in his demand that Pie claim first is ridiculous.

Why? He held out hope that that ridiculous demand would be honored precisely because he felt backed up by two prominent players. If he had been met with a solid wall of 'claim, now' then entire thing would have been over in the first few hours and town could have moved on.

And this notion that our seeing what was apparently a town vs. town argument for what it was somehow implicates us is beyond me as well, particularly as it would be a hazard as scum to reduce POE by the two players who were actively arguing that the other was scum.

TMI shouldn't be beyond you. I also don't think it reduces POE in such a hard way. Scum know both players are town - both players claim, you kill the one with the better role, that only eliminates one from POE going forward and you make sure he has the least troublesome role, or you may even pocket one or both since you defended them. If one has a scummy claim you can then say you've had a change of heart without too much justification. And in both outcomes, when the dust clears you look good for being the voice of reason. It's a solid play as scum.

RexFavilla

The Luna/WF 'you are both town' refrain also seems borderline TMI. I really don't see where that reasoning is coming from, and if you did sincerely believe that, why not pressure Magic for a claim more resolutely instead of letting the farce drag on forever? Demanding that Pie claim was an on-its-face absurd demand, as Pie didn't accidentally hammer someone last DP. It felt like building town cred, being the 'voice of reason', and then being able to lead town afterwards because they both knew how this would turn out. Also, it was predictable that playing that role was allowing the conflict to spiral out of control and consume a lot of energy by giving Magic false hope that he could argue his way out of the problem.

RexFavilla

One thing I picked up rereading DP1 is that the Banana kill, which originally did not make sense to me, is making a lot more sense. She claimed that her role was confirmable at the end of the DP and would town confirm her. I had forgotten about that. The only reads she gave were a very tepid townread on me. And looking at the soft claims list, she claimed a female character, and Link was outed and lynched at the end of the DP. So scum could have been hunting for power roles/possible confirmed townies/Zelda, killing within softclaimed POE (that would be WF, me, and Banana). I don't think the argument that the kill was driven by an incompetent scum team holds water in light of this. This makes me scum read WF a bit. I've got that feeling all day that I'm a mislynch target - Banana was one of the only people who townread me and she got killed, and a wagon started on me immediately after I said I wouldn't be on, basically wasting a whole day. Feels inorganic.

Luna's post also sticks out to me, where he accused me of 'only voting Thoth after the CC debacle', something that after the rereading the DP makes zero sense, I wasn't even online then. And he also accuses me of lurking and popping in to crack a joke at the end of the DP. Why would he think I was lurking and have a genuine mistake/false memory of me voting Thoth after the CC? Especially when the whole drama was about Thoth being hammered by magic immediately after the false CC? This whole paragraph just reads as contrived to me, and not coming from any normal recollection of those events that someone would have.

I am actually wanting to pressure Rex. Rex hasn't really taken a lot of solid stances, and his joke at the end of the day phase "Never change guys" while funny, kind of rubbed me the wrong way that he was there and making fun of people's decision while not really contributing his own decision. I went back and read all his posts, he had a clear indication of wanting to push magoroth early, later said he would be down to lynch mago or thoth based on little contribution, and only fully voted thoth after the "CC" debacle. Then he doesn't post until EOD, where he makes the joke. IDK I am getting the vibes that he is around and aware of the game but going with the flow rather than trying to solve it. His vote was the scummiest on the thoth wagon imo, and the fact that he never stated an opinion change on it despite mharman changing his claim, or really commenting it at all makes is seem more scummy in hindsight.

In reality, I was literally the first person on Thoth's wagon. Does anyone else find this bizarre reasoning? Like an excuse to scumread?

RexFavilla
The fact that Kohai changed the game just to satisfy character claiming probably means that whoever is a villain is more likely to be town

Curious about this thought process. Is your character borderline evil in-universe?

RexFavilla

Still working, and have a lot of shoveling to do later. Blizzard turned out to be late, not overrated. Just popped in to claim so you can all move on and do something productive, will get a chance to log on and do another readthrough later. I obviously need to rethink the game entirely after Magic's flip.

I'm Impa. The reason I thought Link and Zelda were town early is because my PM pretty unequivocally aligns me with both of them, I'm a nursemaid and protector to Zelda and a mentor to Link, being an important recurring character throughout the series.

RexFavilla

If you had just said 'I'm Zelda' instead of leaving the caps lock on for half the DP I would have been off your wagon in an instant. It staggers me that, as town, you thought it was outrageous that you were pressured and expected to claim after accidentally ccing and hammering a major character at the end of the last DP.

RexFavilla
You see how Rex has nothing more on me after this? This one shut his mouth real quick.

I'm done talking to you because you refused to engage with any points, repeating the same thing ad nauseum, that if you were scum you would have hammered him before you claimed, which I already addressed. Any time scum pushes a lynch, there's a possibility the target can stop the lynch by claiming. One such lynch-stopping claim is the main protagonist. My entire argument is that you and mago freaked out when you realized the lynch on Thoth had hit a brick wall and that it might revert to mago. Your one point does nothing to address that, and it's all your willing to offer.

I tried to get a read on how you felt about mago earlier to test this theory but you blew me off and refused to answer. Then Mago pulled whatever that little gambit with WF was to derail the DP, which worked. Now you are both trying to flip the wagon on me. I'll wait for Pie and Thoth to chime in at this point. No point engaging.

RexFavilla
I've made this point about three times and no one's been able to defeat it

It's simple. Once Thoth claimed, it became clear that he wouldn't be lynched that DP. I think that's what scum was scared of: who the wagon would revert to once he was off the table. That's why I'm sussing you for hammering post-claim with that justification, and Mago for being the player who would probably be next of the chopping block. There is something that's holding me back a bit but it's just a hunch. Otherwise I would be just locked in om one of you're lynches.

RexFavilla
I think the most likely pairing of mago scum is magic or lunatic. Maybe whiteflame

One of the reasons I started to sus Magic was because I found the way the wagons shifted at the end of last DP weird. Mago was originally widely scumread compared to other players due to his bizarre claim, then the wagon formed on Thoth. The attempt to start a wagon on Luna seemed very forced and random, almost like the people doing it didn't want the wagon to default to the other player who was on the chopping block earlier (Mago). So, they were trying to make Luna the 'backup' wagon instead, as he said he wouldn't be here at the end of the DP. When that didn't stick, and Thoth claimed Link, I think the scum team panicked. Didn't want the wagon to default to Mago, didn't think they could pull off the Luna wagon that they floated, so did the "oopsies, read my PM wrong 'accidentally on purpose' hammer" became the optimal play. Magic surmised (it seems correctly, unfortunately) that he could get away with this my pulling the same thing Mikal did and wifoming it into 'would scum be so brazen as to do something like that?'. Ironically, if we don't lynch him, we prove that yes, scum can be that brazen and get away with it scott free. In fact, they can expect to be townread over fake CCing and lynching the protagonist of the series once he claims at L-1. This is why my current operating theory is a Magic/Mago scum team, as he's done absolutely nothing to dispel this notion aside from wifoming, omgussing, and refusing to entertain the possibility that his surmised partner is scum.

RexFavilla
Idfk. Get your vote off me. I’m not claiming until Pie does

This jarred my memory a bit, you said almost the exact same thing as scum in Ted Lasso, I remember cause I thought it was funny and screenshotted it to Luna.

RexFavilla

Because I've played with you as town where you had wagons run on you. I KNOW you rage as town. I know you play well as scum, as you did in Ted Lasso. I DON'T know how you act when people lynch you as scum.

RexFavilla
and this a set up for another one

why in the world would Rex be asking for past games, if past examples could just be me justifying my play with past examples?

I wasn't specifically asking YOU. I was more asking other players who have more extensive experience with you. I didn't play much on DART. I don't think I've ever lynched you as scum that I can recall.

RexFavilla
I don’t like how Rex let things play out for the start of this DP, only to jump in now.

i picked this up from MU guide to scumhunting, but scum likes to have most of their activity in the mid phase. They don’t like being around at the SoD to draw attention and (depending on how the wagons are going) they will disappear near the end of the phase.

It's called sleeping. I humbly apologize for not being conscious in the wee hours of the morning. I was running around preparing for an apparently overhyped blizzard last night, the DP wasn't posted before I crashed so I reread the end of the last DP and then went to sleep.
