**Nemesis, Goddess of Just Retribution**
Before mortals learned to fear consequences, before kings believed themselves untouchable, there was Nemesis.
She was not born in thunder like Zeus, nor in sea-foam like Aphrodite. Nemesis rose from **Nyx, the Night herself**, shaped from shadow and balance. Where others granted gifts, Nemesis measured them. Where pride grew too tall, she arrived—silent, inevitable.

Once, a king named **Theron** ruled a golden city. He was beloved, wealthy, victorious in war—and certain the gods favored him above all others. In his arrogance, he built a temple not to Zeus, nor to Athena, but to **himself**, declaring that no divine power could humble a man so blessed.
The gods stirred in outrage. Ares demanded blood. Hera demanded madness. Zeus raised his thunderbolt.
Nemesis alone said, “Let him finish his prayer.”
That night, she descended into the city as a woman in gray. She asked the king for shelter. Theron laughed and offered her a place among servants, mocking her plainness. Nemesis accepted with a bow.
For days she watched. She saw the king dismiss the poor, silence the wise, and praise only himself. At the height of a feast celebrating his divinity, Nemesis rose.
The torches dimmed. Music faltered. Theron felt something unfamiliar coil in his chest—**doubt**.

By morning, the city stood leaderless. No plague came. No fire fell. Only humility remained.
