You said in #8 that your Hated deactivates on DP3. Later, it sounded like you were saying it deactivates at MYLO/LYLO. Did you say DP3 because you figured that's when we would hit MYLO/LYLO?

Thoth

Again, I don't really see the point of a Hated that deactivates before it could give scum a free mislynch. If we weren't going to lynch a Hated claimant, we would cast their votes so as to avoid lynching them, and if we were going to lynch them, they would get lynched anyway. The numbers change, but how we should coordinate our votes does not. It's like the whole purpose of the role is just to be SOP-claimable, unless we are so retarded that we all independently swing around votes without worrying about coordination or the risk of a mislynch. A Hated that doesn't deactivate when scum can freely mislynch them is probably too dangerous to put in a game.

I figured it was a pretty obvious joke, though I couldn't put it past Rex to include something absurd just for shits and giggles.

Right. This theme is an obvious joke. You can't assume that an absurd claim didn't come from Rex.

Thoth

The schizoposter in me wonders if the Candace Owens' left tit claim was a 5head play to bait Candace into character-claiming and then retract.

Copy-pasting a fake role PM that isn't an obvious joke should be just as serious of an offense as copy-pasting a real role PM. Wryly apparently thought it was an obvious joke, but some of us may not have caught it as a joke. Not that all of my jokes in Mafia games on here have landed.

Thoth

I don't know if I exactly scumread it, but it strikes me as odd that Pie said in #8 what Hated Townie does, as though we don't all know that.

Townpiling Pie for the Hated SOP for now, though I don't know what the track record is of scum claiming Hated to discourage wagons. I'm gonna assume if it's a common scum play he wouldn't do it.

I dunno how claiming Hated would discourage wagons. Accidental/"accidental" hammers can happen to non-Hated players too. Pie isn't going to disappear if one person picks him for Random Vote Start.

If something is a common scum play, that is probably because it's been tested and found to be good for scum.

Thoth

I was pretty sure Wryly was joking about being Candace Owens' left tit when I read that claim earlier, but I could have bought both that and Candace herself being in the game. That also makes me slightly uncomfortable with her fake role PM. Yeah, I know it's a joke.

I take it that wylted was not joking about being Candace.

Do yall support the draw? I think it’s only fair to give the win to scum. Wryly and I are in agreement and that makes 4 players out of 10. Need 2 more

Is this a democratic procedure? Yes, I support the scum win.

That being said, if the goal is to allow for deviation, then every host would have to be as clear as possible about what their definitions are and likely have to announce when they start just to ensure everyone is on the same page. That should be the bare minimum expectation.

That’s what I was saying. I thought you were suggesting that we enforce a definition.

I'm advocating treating it as a foundational definition applied to every game of Mafia for the site, yes. For a related example, games might be able to mess with how parity is established, but the fundamentals of what parity is remain the same across games. I don't think hosts lack for ways to change up the game just because we clearly define certain terms as a community and hold to them - I think there's value in clarifying what these terms mean and using that continuously across games to prevent confusion.

If this community agreed upon standards for how to treat MYLO/LYLO, how do you think we should handle hosts who wanted to define or announce them differently?

I think adding another variable like this is bound to create more misunderstandings and issues of clarity, particularly since some mods are pretty far apart on this, but I can respect your view.

What do you mean by adding a variable? If I understand you correctly, not adding a variable would mean forcing all hosts to define and announce MYLO and LYLO in the same way, which contradicts the spirit of host’s freedom that I have always felt on here. Sounds like something from MafiaScum.

Should mods have discretion to make the call on whether a game has reached MYLO/LYLO?

Yes, but it should be announced by the start of day 1 whether or not it will be announced.

Should we establish a site standard for when games reach MYLO/LYLO?

Possibly, but hosts should be free to deviate from it, like with Mikal breaking the norm of revealing the lynch’s alignment at end-of-day. Hosts should be expected, but not formally required, to state their definition of MYLO/LYLO by the start of day 1, unless we all accept a standard definition of MYLO/LYLO, in which case they should only be expected to state it if they are using a different definition.

Thoth

I could possibly be persuaded otherwise, but I think the best definitions of MYLO and LYLO are (Town = Scum + 2) and (Town = Scum + 1), respectively, where third-parties are included as whatever alignment they count for the parity of, if any. My concern is that declaring MYLO/LYLO with consideration to extra kills, protectives, or other night actions could give too much insight into the setup, while effectively announcing the number of remaining scum only reveals what people probably guessed correctly anyway.

Thoth

I think the main lesson to take from this game is the necessity of precisely defining MYLO and LYLO, but I do wonder what was going through Kohai’s mind when he added two extra kills and a potential PGO.

Thoth

I always thought of MYLO as strictly numerical, i.e., 1-3 is MYLO even if there is no way for scum to win overnight after a mislynch, because defining it in terms of possible outcomes could give too much insight into the setup. I think how MYLO and LYLO are defined is worthy of more discussion, and that hosts should specify exactly what they mean by MYLO/LYLO.

I don't think Mikal seriously thought most of us would believe his claim, but I could be wrong.
Then why would he use it as a reaction test?

A question for Mikal, though considering his history of running similar tests, we can assume he's using it to assess reactions so that he can get some behavioral reads. He tends to do that.

He tends to bait for reactions with claims he doesn’t think we will believe? And I’m the one who can’t keep his story straight??

Thoth

I wanted to see if unvoting and revoting would show the post # of the new vote because my approach for tied votes in my future games will probably be removing votes starting from the most recent, with unvotes and revotes counting as new votes.
