I don't think that everyone claiming their character is important enough for me to push against majority opinion. I just don't think that it would carry the same drawbacks that it would in a theme where the character pool is essentially public and flavor is alignment-indicative.
I honestly don't see that much value in the mass claim for town, and while scum can always claim from a very wide pool of characters (not like there's a limit to the range), I do worry about people giving away their role by claiming.
That's still a real risk, but the need to modpsych Kohai makes it one that I wouldn't worry about unless your character matches a specific role so well that you can't imagine them being anything else.
And at best, locking scum into a character claim just limits the range of potential roles that can be applicable to their character.

I understand throwing caution to the wind in a game like this and just letting people own their characters, I'm just not convinced it's doing anything for us. I'll be looking for some thoughts from those who haven't posted yet.
It's a calculated risk, and the calculations for this game are different than they are for most games on here. I won't deny that there could be legitimate criticism of it, but calling it "throwing caution to the wind", comes off as having a vested interest against it.
And speaking as someone who has done exactly that as scum before, yes, I do think it's plausible that scum could work out some roles from character claims.
Plausible, yes, but they could just as well convince themselves of falsehood.
I only submitted two characters, by the way. Or, rather, I submitted three and then had Kohai remove one.

Normally, the argument for mass-character claiming early is that it makes it harder for scum to fake-claim later, and the argument against it is that the more claims are public, the easier it is for scum to narrow down who is who, making it easier for them to guess who has which role or which characters are likely to be safe fake-claims. Since alignments are randomized, those arguments against it don't really apply, so all that claiming our characters will do is narrow the pool of roles that scum can concoct reasonable justifications for. That is, unless you think scum are going to be really, really good at modpsyching what roles Kohai gave to each character.

What is preventable is presenting those OGI reads to the thread. Instead of stating “I think player x is town because of an OGI issues” it is better to try and fabricate or find an in-game reason to support that read.
If I have ever been okay with OGI, it was only because this was the alternative and I never even considered that people would be okay with building a facade around OGI. Is this the standard suggestion on the big mafia sites?
I still can't believe that Kohai's role wasn't bullshit either.

My role sounds so powerful on paper, but responsibly using it means letting town decide where to put the votes, so in a way all the role does is confirm itself unless I use it to wildly hammer.
