Boilerplate Day 1 OP Stuff That We Should All Mostly Know Anyway

You are strongly encouraged to read everything in this section.

I use "players" to mean people who signed up for this game, and "characters" to mean the people mentioned in role PMs. So if your username on here is Thoth and your role PM says you are whiteflame, your player is Thoth and your character is whiteflame.

Roles have been assigned randomly. That should go without saying, but I might as well say it, if only to be the change I want to see.

Your character can be yourself. I wanted to avoid this by re-rolling as long as somebody was themselves, but knowing that somebody can't be a certain character could be too powerful information.

There is a theme split. Scum have been told what it is. It's not meant to be especially hard to figure out.

Role justifications and the theme split are based only on people as Mafia players. So, there are no justifications about someone's day job or real-life theme splits like women versus men.

Some justifications are clear and direct, and others are loosey-goosey. This is to give scum more leeway in fake-claiming.

The only requirement for being a character in this game is having played or hosted at least one forum Mafia game on DebateCraft. I believe this list is complete, but if there's an error or two, it doesn't really change the game.

Which of these characters are in the game was not chosen randomly. I mainly picked regulars, but I also included at least one player who would not be considered a regular or to have had much impact on this site's Mafia community. I also aimed for a healthy mix of people playing in this game versus people not playing in this game.

Scum have been given at least two character fake-claims that would be town according to the theme split. They can also get correct answers to three questions about whether or not a role is in the game. They may use these questions at any time.

The alignment split is either 7 town / 2 scum or 6 town / 2 scum / 1 third-party. If there is a third-party, their character would be town according to the theme split, their win condition is only to survive until the end of the game, they count as town for scum parity, and they have been given a role fake-claim.

In Madoka Magica, I had a rules question policy, but I didn't really follow it. In this game, I am using a more liberal question policy that I will strictly enforce. I will answer basically any question about role effects and interactions, even for hypothetical roles, 'hypothetical' meaning it's not your role, it hasn't flipped, and you haven't seen it in an investigative result. However, you must describe any hypothetical roles you ask rules questions about, even if they are common roles like Cop or Tracker. This is because: (1) different people might use the same name for different roles or vice versa; (2) if I can't promptly answer your question, it could tip you off that the role(s) you asked about are not in the game.

Town win when all threats to town have been eliminated. Mafia win at scum parity, i.e., when there are at least as many scum alive as non-scum. If there are neutrals, they have their own win conditions.

Plurality lynching is in effect. If a player gets enough votes to kill them, they die and the day ends immediately, putting the thread into twilight until I get around to close it. If a day ends with nobody having enough votes to kill them, the player with the most votes is lynched. If there is a tie for first place, votes are removed starting with the most recent and going backwards. Unvoting and voting again counts as a new vote. If there is still a tie after removing votes, then nobody voted and you should really re-evaluate your priorities.

As usual on here, days will be 72 hours maximum and nights will be 24 hours maximum, but phases might end early. This day phase ends at 6PM Central time on March 15.

Good idea. Stupid ol' me didn't even think of sending PMs out and then deciding when to start. I'll do some more double-checking and possible last-minute revisions, but they will go out tonight or early tomorrow (meaning tonight but after midnight).

I'll start tonight or tomorrow unless the majority of players have told me by 11PM Central tonight that they want to wait for Vader. (Vader can vote on this too if y'all can reach him. He will only be counted for deciding how big majority is if he votes.)

Monday would probably be better for me than today or tomorrow since my game on there will likely be over by then. Actually, if I'm doing my mental math right, it will be over by Sunday night at the latest. I just don't see the point in waiting the better part of a week unless there's overwhelming demand.

Interestingly, Savant looks to be the only person who has hosted a game on here but not played in one. I meant that you have to have played or hosted before to be a character in the game. Like, say whiteflame signed up for this game, then he might get Savant as his character. You could play this game even if you had never played a game on here before.
