Alien Mafia DP1

Wryly · a year ago

Okay just letting everyone know that canonically, Ripley and Newt got away and lived happily ever after. I will be acknowledging the alternate timeline of Aliens 3 and 4 for the context of this game, and the context of this game ONLY, but they literally never happened I need everyone to know that. Ripley and Newt got away and they both got therapy and Ripley raised Newt as her daughter. Anyone who says this isn't canon is trying to sabotage my mental health and I will report them for cyberbullying immediately. #RipleyAndNewtLived

It was a fortunate, for me, coincidence that we had a Doctor in this game despite Pie using them rarely enough that Lunatic reasonably concluded that it was evidence against Wryly.

I should've pointed out that Strongman counterbalances Doctor and there's not a great reason to put Strongman in otherwise, as WF pointed out, but I definitely did not think of it.

He wanted me to claim that I saw something that indicated that my results had been tampered with, hence why I did not claim immediately, and by claiming I Tracked him, nobody would have information to the contrary, unless perhaps RT Asceticized Magic. I told Magic that, if I were Tracker and I knew that I had been interfered with, I should have claimed this ASAP to let town know there is a role that can tamper with information. He replied that a Tracker would have good reason to hide their role so they could get more usefulness out of it. I said in the day thread that I had been debating with myself whether or not to claim, then claimed, and I believe nobody pressured me about it.

So the goal was to gin up suspicion that there was a scum role that interfered with role results?

Wryly

tyvm, very enlightening

Then the only reason my waive didn't bite me in the ass more is that I was in the POE, honestly. It kept me alive. And I definitely misjudged when you'd use your power, I thought for sure you would've conserved your 1x Strongman until later. Ofc, I didn't know Thoth had been given such a whopper of a JOAT.

Wryly
The self-visit claim was Magic's idea. I did not like it, but he was insistent and my objections to that one never got vocal, although some of my other disagreements with him did.

Why was he so insistent?

Also why did you guys decide you should straightclaim Gilan but fake claim Erak?

Wryly

I'm aware. That post was in response to what Lunatic said:

I chalked up the self visit to pie having odd mechanics about how roles and visits work, but generally understood that mafia tend to self visit more than town.
Wryly
2. Why didn't anyone ask Lunatic if he was a 1x or 2x dreamer? RT even used his Asceticizer on Lunatic NP2, I assume to protect him if he had a second dream to spend?
I didn't want to know. If scum thought he had more than one shot as a dreamer they might NK him and confirm POE for us. Better to let them overestimate the threat he posed and kill someone who had already outlived his usefulness instead of a better role that still had utility. If he did have extra shots then best not to call attention to it because it would draw the NK. One thing I dislike about the meta here is overclaiming. There's information that can hurt scum if you withhold it or misrepresent it. There's already an information asymmetry at play, you don't have to give them even more to work on.

Lol duh. Ty.

So when you targeted Luna you were also risking blocking a second dream

Edit: hadn't read your above post yet

Wryly

I'm confused, how can Mharman's power self visit. Someone had to reflect his power back at him for Thoth's tracking results to be correct, right? Who did you think did that?

Wryly
What didn't make sense to me as the DP dragged on was Wryly coming out and saying 'oh boy, I visited the NK as doc and they still died, what happened?' Scum Mharman would never let a coached Wryly come out with that. And if I were her scum partner, I would tell her to waive the nightkill to fake confirm her role - whether its three of four players surviving, scum wins if town mislynches.

Argh I should have made this argument DP4.

Wryly

I thought my DP4 arguments concerning Thoth's read of a Magic self-visit would persuade you. Why didn't they and what could I have done to make them more persuasive

Wryly

I have some noob questions if anyone doesn't mind.

1. Why is it bad for a doctor to waive NP1? I know people scumread it but why. What i looked up seemed to indicate doctors should play conservatively.

2. Why didn't anyone ask Lunatic if he was a 1x or 2x dreamer? RT even used his Asceticizer on Lunatic NP2, I assume to protect him if he had a second dream to spend?

3. Why did Magic try to float the argument that Pie wouldn't put a Hider in a 9 player game?

Wryly
Wait so which power did Thoth use on me to block my protection of Rex?
You Doctored Rex and I killed you, then Bus Driver sent the kill to Rex and your Doctor to yourself. I was surprised that Bus Driver redirected night kills too. That play was Magic's idea. I think it might have been better to Redirect you to Lunatic because that Bus Driver play would have failed if you had self-doctored.

Okay I see. Nah it was the right play because there was no way I was gonna self-doctor at that point. You would be stupid to NK me with only the two of us left in the POE. And I had no idea what a bus driver was so I wouldn't have anticipated that play.

Wryly

I definitely made more blunders than bullseyes here. I was too worried about wasting my shots in NP1; i didnt want to have no shots NP3 when id probably have better reads. Protecting Magic was dumb. Magic convinced me to mislynch Mikal and I mislynched Casey just because her role gave us ex post facto information. And I should have tagged Luna way more in DP4, I dont think my arguments were reaching him

Wryly

Okay i just didn't understand how bus driver worked. Grr. My one correct protection. Maybe after Rex died anyway i should have just claimed to have protected Luna. Might have looked less suspicious because he raised an eyebrow at that

Wryly

Wow I would've thought that JOAT was way too overpowered to be in the game. I guess no, mafia needs better roles to balance being outnumbered.

Wait so which power did Thoth use on me to block my protection of Rex?

Wryly
I suggested that Wryly redirected Magic to himself for some bizarre reason, but I suppose there is a non-negligible chance that Magic never visited himself and Wryly has an ability that can feed townies false information. I doubt it, but I guess it's possible.

I have no idea what power could do this. You're saying I just happened to target you in particular with this power NP1? That would be a pretty random shot in the dark, I had no reason to think you were a tracker at that point. And if I had that power, why didn't I use it again last NP to stop you from tracking me?

Wryly

You're guessing I redirected my own Strongman scummate? What possible reason would I do that?

And making a case that Magic used his 1x Strongman on the first night phase is wild. That's the night when there is the least chance of a townie with a protective role shielding your NK target. Wouldn't you want to save that for when the choices are much narrower and there's a higher chance your NK might be blocked?

Would you care to explain why Halt has flipped scum and Will Treaty is in a "mentor/student relationship which develops into more of a father/son relationship" with Halt? Source. You're not really telling me you missed that, are you?

?

What does Will Treaty have to do with anything

For that matter, you could have pushed me as scum straight-claiming, since Gilan was Halt's apprentice, and the fact that you did not shows me that you were afraid to bring up connections between Halt and any other characters.

I don't get what you're driving at. what does that make the scum split? Mentor/apprentice vs everyone else? Am I have a blond moment here or something.

Wryly

Also it means you're a 3x tracker and idk why Pie would do that when everyone else's powers were 1x or 2x

Also it would mean Magic advised me to claim doctor and then say I protected him, my scummate, which would be stupid

Also wouldn't Magic have advised me not to jump on the Mikal wagon and stay low profile instead, like you did

Also why VTL me last DP instead of trying to turn the suspicion up on you

Wryly

If Magic had carried out the NK on Mikal, you would have tracked him visiting Mikal that night. But you didn't, you tracked him visiting himself. That means he would've had to use his 1x Strongman power NP1, when it made the least sense to.

Which still doesn't answer the question of who bounced his Strongman power back at him. No confirmed townie had a role power that could do that. And if I'm scum, I wouldn't have interfered with my scummate. That leaves only the possibility that you're lying.

Wryly

If you're town, why did you read Magic visiting himself? That "mirror maker" shit? Luna has no such power. Neither did Rex. If I'm Magic's scummate, I certainly wouldn't have tried to redirect him. You've claimed you're a tracker. We know Magic was a Strongman, has no reason to visit himself voluntarily.

Te only way I can figure it is if after Luna shared the dreamer results, both you and Magic knew you had to claim something, so you claimed tracker and had Magic vouch for your results.

Wryly

The Kalkara are from the Mountains of Rain and Night, which I guess are south of Araluen, which I have been confidently misspelling for I assume the whole game.

idk what the theme split is
