After reading Thoth's role PM I'm even more confused by why he didn't SOP claim. Just confirmed with Kohai that his role would not kill have killed scum who targeted him for the NK. And it only has a 10% chance of killing scum who visit him with a non-killing role; 90% chance of just redirecting scum to another townie. The chances of weaponizing his ability against scum were very slim, chances of it hurting town were high.

Wryly

Also Banana is a From fan! Awesome show. Love Fatima. Not sure what role allows you to leave OP messages or whether that confirms her alignment.

"Cats don't drink cocktails."
"Cats don't shoot lasers from their eyes, either, but here we are, Carl. Mama needs a night off."

Damn it. Really thought I was gonna be right on that one. Should've listened to whiteflame that inconsistent and anomalous behavior is NAI for Thoth. At least he had a negative utility role.

Why claim you're a Vig before your Vig is even active? Was he really hoping that defense ability claim was enough to discourage scum from bumping him off the roster? I don't understand his play at all.

Wryly

I am still leaning Thoth as well. I have to attend to my grandmother. If anyone would like to make a better case for Shining, now is the time. Mikal and Lunatic could still swing this toward Shining as well.

The problem isn’t with the CC, it’s with Thoth’s response to it. I just don’t get why he’d point to the CC, then just vote Luna based on a gut read. I get that there are inconsistencies in his behavior as well, though Thoth just generally tends to have issues keeping his story straight whether he’s town or scum, so I look for more from him to establish a read.

You say he's inconsistent as either alignment but also say you sus him because of an inconsistency. Does it come down to how inconsistent must a Thoth be to tip from NAI to scum?

I suppose we could CFD over to Shining but we would have to be lynching blind. I don't like it.

I'd like to wait on the Thoth thing TBH

Wait on what? No one is going to visit him. He can't be role or alignment confirmed.

Wryly

My post-vote doubt is setting in.

Carl: Mordecai, do you remember anything from today?
Donut: YOU WERE DRUNK AND YOU MOLESTED SOMEONE'S GRANDMA.

VTL: Thoth

He was gonna be lynched anyway under plurality but in the interests of giving town clear wagon data, here I sits.

I don't like the idea of costing town a potentially valuable role just because Shining is a low-effort player in general. If we had his claim right now that might be a different story. I'd rather lynch Thoth now and get a claim from Shining next DP.

I'm not sure why everyone is making so much of the CC when most of us seem to agree Mikal is bullshitting, btw. The inconsistencies in Thoth's story matter a lot more to me, but they don't seem to be as compelling to some of you. No idea if that means I'm giving them too much significance or what.

I apologize for my lack of contributions so far, rough few days.

Bananas and gentlemen, I propose Thoth. He begins by saying he guarantees Kohai based his role justification off Langan's Wikipedia article, "especially the first paragraph." After a bit he throws caution to the wind and full claims that he's a Paranoid Nexus -- 50/50 chance visitors are either killed or redirected. Passing over the fact that this role smells a little Thothy, he completely failed to SOP claim it out of the gate, and his justification for that is he was hoping to kill scum who visited him.
For that reason, if I were a straight PGO, I probably would have fake-claimed something designed to bait Mafia visits. The reason I decided to SOP-claim after dwelling on it was the fear that my Nexus could give investigatives false results.

So he's okay with killing investigatives but he's not ok with giving them false results? Just doesn't add up to me.

This would be a pretty reckless and potentially costly approach to scumhunting, and I'm not convinced town!Thoth would like that math.
He would love the math if he thought hr had scumbait for a fake claim.

Not sure what he means here.

If he was so persuaded that killing scum helps more than killing townies hurts, why full claim instead of trying to bait scum?
See above.
I point out that "the first paragraph" of the Wikipedia article says nothing about "guns and conspiracy theories". He amends himself and says oh well, it was the second paragraph, and also he never said Kohai didn't source the justification from other places as well. This imo doesn't really line up with the vibe of post #4, which seems to be saying that Kohai is lazy and grabbed the justification from the first, easiest source he could find.
Part of my role PM is just a clipping from the first paragraph of Chris Langan’s Wikipedia article, in slightly different words. Part of it is based on his views that are described in the second paragraph. Maybe I could have spoken more precisely, but my point is that Kohai was clearly relying on the first search results when writing my role card.

This isn't consistent with him saying "I never said it was the only thing Kohai used" in #56. He's gone back and forth on whether Kohai just referenced Wikipedia or used other sources.

I'll @ him in this post but I don't have much hope he'll be back on before EOD.

Wryly

I'd really like to get into Thoth's replies to me before making a decision but i'm busy as hell rn. This is what I get for not being active enough the first two days. Late DP1 replacements should come with an automatic day phase extension.

i agree with wryly i think thoth is the best lynch today his whole claim was just wierd and the way he went about it, the not kniwin about the guy he picked, the way he made it seem like he was doin some gambit by not immediately outing then not understanding how his claim culd hurt town more than scum, etc etc. i jus think hes probably scum. was gonna give him a chance to do somethin to help me think hes town but he just kind of went awol after defendin himself and isnt really suggesting a better direction, i think hes scum and messed up with his claim and is trying to slurk in the shadows and hope our attention goes elsewhere.

VTL: Thoth

Tbf he did just get hit by a keylogger scammer so he may be busy dealing with that.

I think he's either scum and concocted his fake claim after the day phase started, like Banana thinks, or he's fake claiming as town to reaction bait, which to be fair, he's done before.

Wryly

We seem to be at a stall. Why don't we take a vote on who we would want Mikal to kill tonight if he did have a vig?

Please don't remind me of DC Players mafia I will cut a bitch who reminds me of DC Players mafia

Wryly

I should try reaction baiting more. The only time I've ever done it was in Andor mafia when I asked whiteflame to modkill himself at LYLO to prove he was town. I wanted to see if Lunatic would jump on it and be like "yeah whiteflame, if you're town, throw yourself on the sword for a town win lol." Instead his reaction seemed pretty townie.

We should probably move on from Mago. I'm good getting a claim from Thoth or Shining.

Carl: I think I'm being charmed by an NPC with horns. What do I do?
Mordecai: It's not a real Charm spell because if it was, you wouldn't be asking me about it. Is it happening to Donut, too?
Donut: HE HAS AN ERECTION, MORDECAI. IT'S VERY INAPPROPRIATE. MONGO IS APPALLED.
Wryly

My grandmother is having a rough night so I'll probably be inactive until tomorrow.

I hate lynching inactives; always a shot in the dark. If Mago doesn't show we can just ask Kohai to replace him. Thoth feels sus, Mikal's claim is dubious, and Shining is Shining, so there are better avenues of exploration imo.

Wryly

Unlimited vig shots would be wild. Sounds like bullshit. Well, maybe not. Sometimes I'm like "no way would a mod do that" and then at endgame "holy shit the mod really did that."

Like when Vader put three investigatives and no protectives in that one game and I mislynched at LYLO. Not that I'm still bitter. (I am.)

"What gives them the right to just defile me like this? What gives them the right!" Donut cried. "Oh my god! It's a disqualifying mark. It's a disqualifying mark, Carl! I'm damaged!"

Didn't realize this started. Dp1 is going to be useless. Can we just randomly shoot someone and move on. No theme to analyze and the biggest factors are going to be results and behavior. Both of which are going to hard to gather before a np

I dont see a point in not claiming.

Im squall from ff8. Fav character. Was between this and Dalinar from stormlight

I can pick between two actions

I can vig, this is not 1x and is unlimited
Or I can defend myself and wound any tp and scum that visit me. They will die the following np

He justified this with my abilities and did a pretty awful job explaining it. He didnt even give me a specific role. Just what I do

In Dalinar we trust.

Why full claim?

i was aware of his conspiratorial and right-wing politics, just not of the extent of his racism.

It says he's against interracial relationships in the second paragraph of his Wikipedia article, which you read because you said Kohai based the role justification on it. But if you're saying it was a question of only realizing the extent and reality of his racism after reading the tweets, I suppose.

But I don't like the pivot between "lol lazy Kohai based my justification on paragraph one of his wikipedia article" to "Kohai based my justification off of a combination of paragraph two of his wikipedia article and Twitter research."

Wryly

My eyebrow is definitely raised by not immediately SOP claiming PGO. That's always been treated as a no-brainer.

I await the arrival of the others.

"How is it you're James Bond when it comes to strangers, but Miss Beatrice could date three different guys at once, and you had no idea?"
"Three different guys?"
"Well, you were one of them, so two, I guess. Then again, it's three if you count Angel's owner. Does it count as cheating when it's with another woman? There's so many human nuances I don't understand."
"Of course it counts as cheating," I said. For fuck's sake.
"But you were always watching those videos on your iPad with the two women rolling around and cleaning each other. Would it have been cheating if Miss Beatrice let you watch?"
"We're not having this conversation right now, Donut."
