I also think the whole anti claim stuff is bullshit in general. If you want to punish town for claiming, give scum actual roles to counter them instead of relying on some arbitrary anti claim. Or just give fake claims to scum. Anti claim just adds an unnecessary feature imo

This is actual sort of what I'm doing in my next game. Anticlaim is more baked into the theme, roles, and mechanics.

Tbf you guys played it perfect. With my result on awesome that invalidated wf it was all but over. Never would have guesses all that fuckery happen. All pie had to do was say inno child cus he’s been softing in and the extra kill made it safe cus no dp3

You guys should just start policy lynching him every time he claims it. What are the chances he actually even gets randomly assigned that role as town?

RexFavilla

By the way if pressed I would have claimed 1x doublevoter and said I was so reticent to claim because it could give us an extra DP if I activated it in the NP and survived when we were at parity.

RexFavilla
Didn't notice that, but that basically means we were boned if we didn’t get sufficient info from NP1. As soon as we hit MYLO and everyone had to claim (which I still think should have been a given), we all would have been RB’d NP2, so none of our roles would have mattered even if we’d lynched correctly.

Maybe I'm misremembering but there were games on DDO where I recall people not fullclaiming at MYLO unless they had results that were pertinent. After returning for my first game the new meta of a perfunctory mass claim to 'solve' the game gave me whiplash. It's not something that I remember seeing often, it was only done if town was in very dire straits and had no idea what the fuck was going on.

For example, you could say 'due to my role I know that x visited y' without explicitly saying you were a tracker or a watcher or whatever. People would press you for a claim if they doubted you a lot and if that could clarify things like interactions with other roles, but telling which you were was often seen as giving too much information to scum. Maybe @awesome5000 can comment about his site meta, but mass claims do not have to be done every game imo. It should be situational. I think kohai wanted the site to try a different way and get over this crutch but instead they just... claimed and lost.

This aint gonna hit 13 players, please start one you hit nine

Bullish, Casey, WF and Wylted have all volunteered but only if I start it in October. I have Wryly and David as backups. I will probably be starting it mid next week at the earliest anyway has I have a busy weekend.

roughly two claims meaning two roles get blocked by anti-claim

We got one block if one person claimed, two is three people claimed, and if all town players claimed they could all be blocked. It wasn't a 1:1 thing.

RexFavilla

I know people have said that the extra kill was excessive, but I really think it was the only way to make the game fair in retrospect. The large amount of investigative and protective roles in play meant that with three town players basically confirmed we had no room to maneuver. There was very little path open to scum that way, we would be boxed in by DP3 completely. Just think if unsaid had used that role more wisely how completely unbalanced the game would be in town's favor.

Town lost for three reasons. The first is that they more or less ignored anticlaim despite a pretty dire and explicit warning. Can't really complain about anticlaim being severe when the OP underlined it in red ink for you and multiple people mentioned it and then proceeded to completely ignore it and claim DP1 anyway.

The second was relying on angleshooting. If Mikal had just used that info to craft his own PoE without mentioning its source there would have been no mod reprisal and scum would have had more room to maneuver, as the advantage conferred would be small. As it stood the consensus was that we either needed to reroll the entire game or give scum a severe offset to counteract almost half of town being confirmed that way. Most mods don't want to reroll a game, so I feel like eventually angleshooting will be seen as anti-town behavior because mods will respond to it aggressively to rebalance the game.

The third was unsaid just yoloing it, wasting a powerful role, and killing himself in the process. As Whiteflame already said, it makes zero sense to use that role DP1. If he had just waived that role could have changed the game NP2 by counterbalancing the NK.

RexFavilla
So you caught that I was the lie detector? And how did Unsaid die? I thought I just read that Lunatic was scum.

We just figured you had some sort of investigative role but couldn't work out quite what it was. Figured we were better off offing you.

My main balance complaint was that I had a 1x watcher which made me happy because it meant I could fake results and claim watcher or JOAT but then a town 1x watcher flipped so I was glad I didn't go through with it lol would have been super sus.

RexFavilla

We got an extra kill to compensate for the town confirmations due to mod error. The other was unsaid picking the wrong target, which was a bit mystifying to me. I would have saved that role till POE odds were better and I had more info to work on, especially with the risks being that high.

RexFavilla

Anyone who claimed their role was a potential target, but we could only choose either one or two based on how many people claimed. If the whole town claimed, they all basically lost their roles.

RexFavilla

Anticlaim. It allows us to nullify town roles completely based on how many people claimed. We used it on you, you were basically vanilla this DP. You were no longer popular or deathproof either.

RexFavilla
skep. Now that pie has claimed innocent child. I do want your role , not your character. Your result won’t matter tomorrow as it’s going to be you vs wf

Why? Results aren't the issue. I'm telling you that as soon as you see it you'll regret it.

RexFavilla

Why on earth would Mikal fakeclaim bulletproof as scum if he were going this route? It literally has no utility to scum, aside from making their role even more ridiculous and sus. It has utility as a town because it would dissuade the NK.

RexFavilla

No, I'm basing the game at this point on balance, behavior, and trusting the results of people whom I townread. The flips of the two people you town-confirmed basically make you quaranteed town in my eyes. Less sure about Pie or Max, but you vouch for Max. Your results and his behavior make Awesome scum in my book, and WF to me seems scum by behavior and balance. Could it be pie? Maybe. But we can figure that out next DP.

RexFavilla

I'm convinced at this point that WF is scum and is trying to confirm the last mislynch by covering for his scum partner. Only thing about TP is that I can't see why a TP would fakeclaim as cop to clear another player. Seems like an unnecessary risk and more of a scum move. Pushing my claim is super sus. Mikal already made a good case. If we have an ironclad case, why claim today? If I die in the night (highly probable, I'm the last wildcard for scum) you will see it tomorrow. If not, I will claim first thing next DP because the game will be almost over at that point. Whiteflame is acting like anticlaim just doesn't exist. If I were scum and we were at MYLO/LYLO why not cc someone or fabricate results to secure the last lynch?

David said he 'can't answer' my question on whether an oblique claim could dodge anticlaim so that makes me even less amenable to it.

One thing that makes me scumread Awesome outside of Mikal's analysis is the fact that he says that he didn't block chat. Why the hell would you not do that? As town, why would you not deprive scum of their daychat during a critical DP? I feel like he's afraid that Max was bluffing about his role failing to catch him out on his role being fake. The motivation only makes sense as scum. What benefit could a non-affiliation confirming town daychat confer that would possibly outweigh depriving scum of one of their greatest advantages?
