Voltaire explained that the problem lies in the institutionalization of religion. In order to become an institution a religion must determine who is in and who is out. This focus tends to produce polarizing ideas and attitudes, us/them thinking, and can result in a siege mentality.
Most Pagan belief systems simply weren’t amenable to institutionalization; the Pagan beliefs of my heritage (Cherokee) were about maintaining balance and harmony with nature. There was, and still is, a great deal of diversity of beliefs among the people, and very little organizational structure, it was a way of thinking and a way of being, rather than a formal set of creeds or a “religion” per se. It just didn’t include the necessary characteristics by which you could emphasize inclusion or exclusion. It isn’t prone to institutionalization, and it just doesn’t plug into the internet in any way.
Keep in mind also, Native Americans did not have a written language for most of the history and development of the subject belief systems, it wasn’t till the 1800s when a Cherokee named Sequoyah created a way of representing the Cherokee language in written form. So there’s no book, no lists, no set of creeds that can be referenced or disseminated.
It was a Spiritual wisdom that was not transferred by a book, it is a wisdom that was directly experienced in succeeding generations, it was fluid and diverse, It was about religion alive, growing and evolving in time, the idea of institutionalized creeds and dogma would be completely foreign to the way of thinking.
Pagan belief systems are fundamentally synchronistic, rather than the boastful contrasts of institutional religions, I think they have historically moved forward through borrowing and exchange, mutual help, cross-fertilization, cooperation and collaboration. To the question of where they went, I think the answer is, they didn’t go anywhere, they are hiding in plain sight, so to speak.
Today, the Cherokee Nation is predominantly Christian, but the historical belief system that was a way of thinking and being, didn’t go anywhere, it just became a way of “understanding” and “practicing” Christianity. You have Cherokee Christians participating in a broad range of pagan rituals and practices, most who participate in the Green Corn Ceremony are Christians. Fundamentally, the Native American Green Corn Ceremony and the Christian Easter Celebrations are essentially the same thing spiritually.
A lot of fundies will see that and say we aren’t Christians, to which I would reply, so what, Jesus was one of us, He was not a Christian either. Perhaps most religions are practicing the religion of Jesus, as opposed to a religion about Jesus.
There are a lot of different spiritual paths but in the end, they all lead to the same mountaintop.

But I do believe that there is "type" of atheism that is a different breed of cat so to speak, and is, in fact, a form of religious extremism. because they exhibit all of the characteristics of an extreme religious and fundamentalist point of view. It is mostly an internet phenomenon, where they don’t just proselytize a metaphysical belief; they have an “us vs. them” paranoid siege mentality that is completely intolerant of anyone who holds different metaphysical belief. They condemn other beliefs, they mock and denigrate anyone that disagrees with them, and they express superiority for being atheists. They have their own bad science in the form of Scientism, they have their own Priesthood in people like Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, and Daniel Dennett, and they have their own constantly repeated dogmatic assertions that are impervious to logical discussion. They live in a bipolar world of good and evil, seeing their own metaphysical beliefs as good, and all others as evil. Good is not a function of actions or behavior, but conformity to the one true metaphysical belief that they hold, that and only that determines whether or not you are "good" (logical, intelligent, scientific), and those who hold any other metaphysical belief are the evil “others” (illogical, superstitious, unscientific, and stupid).

The one and only reason a pardon might be issued is if Trump can personally benefit from it in some way. It’s a matter of how MAGA would react, I think MAGA would see it as suspicious and a coverup action, but I have never been able to reason about, make sense of, or predict what MAGA will do. The only knowing there can be is a “mode” of knowing. We pretty much have to presume that there is something “out there” causing these sensations we have “in here”, in our mind, but we don’t, and can’t, know it directly, we can only know it by the uniquely human manner of sensing and knowing available to us.
I dissagree in so far as, other animals have conscious-ness, for most most have much less access to meta-space mind/intellect/concepts and ego.
You aren’t disagreeing, I’m not saying other animals aren’t conscious, I’m just pointing out that the various animals have different ways of knowing, that we know in a uniquely human manner, as does the bat knows in a uniquely bat manner.
So humans and other animals both are very well conscious of pain from falling, or have a object { tree rock } fall on us.
I argue that consciousness is an aspect of all forms of animal life, from single celled to human, in some extremely attenuated way, it feels like something to be a paramecium.
The only differrence is the human has language of conceptual identies that associate with the object { tree or rock } and can communicate that to others via a mobile phone invention by humans, one of which may have gone to the moon, and is now trapped under rock or tree with a working mobile phone to human made hostpital etc…….
There are strong arguments that the tree shows signs of an aspect of consciousness, David Chalmers believes that the rock has some degree of consciousness. A strong argument can be made for panpsychism, the belief that consciousness pervades the universe, in effect, everything is conscious.
That certainly raises the question as to whether “absolute truth” is even a coherent concept.

It was operator airhead, when I first tried it didn't work because the picture was too big, (I assume so), so I shrunk it down to 400x400 and saved it, then kept trying over and over but somehow had the huge file and the small file transposed, so kept trying the huge file. When I finally realized, it worked fine with the 400x400 pic.

It was a really great debate, both did a fantastic job, but in the end, I don't think they were that far apart, both are arguing for the same thing from different angles, so to speak. You both fundamentally want the same thing, a place for intelligent discussion and the free exchange of ideas, ensuring that is what the site will be will in fact require moderation, and the moderators will have to do what is necessary to keep in from becoming something else altogether. It's as simple as that.
Does it really matter if we call it “strict” or “Laissez-faire”, it will need to be done by a small group of moderators, and when the site is presented with a damaging situation that threatens the well-being of the site, they will have to act, and practically speaking, it can't be a democratic process. We can speculate all day long as to what might jeopardize the site in the future, but to paraphrase Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, the mods will know it when they see it.

The mind body problem isn't anywhere close to resolution, there's isn't even a credibly speculative theory that addresses the “hard problem”, physicalism can't even define consciousness, much rather account for, or explain it.
Without a mechanistic explanation, the only thing that could possibly be considered “scientific evidence” would be subjective reports and observed behavior.
Fact is, you have no way of knowing if anyone else beside you, is in fact, conscious, you just have to take our word for it, that or infer it by observing behavior. In the end, the only way we can know anyone else is experiencing anything, in or out of body, is for them to tell us so.
If the only thing we have to go on scientifically is the reports of subjects, then what we can know scientifically is the so called “out-of-body-experience” is a widespread phenomenon, that has occurred in all times and places humans have existed. The “experience” is real, and locating it in time and space, or understanding it physically, are currently beyond the reach of science.
