Even with Wryly/Charlie Kirk born to be bussed, Rex did y'all dirty with a fake-claim that was semi-CC'd by wylted's flip. I would say that I would have voted Banana otherwise, but the whole game would have played out differently, so that's rather meaningless.

I think our Mafia community is overdue for an injection of variety. Blood on the Clocktower is a social deduction game in the same family as Mafia, maybe even the same genus, but the main mechanics are very different. It was designed to be played in real life, so I am making some changes for online play. You will need to be in the Discord server to play, since that's where private chats will be. I will send you an invite once you sign up. I am hoping for at least ten players. We can go with as few as seven or as many as fifteen.

Here is a non-comprehensive list of differences between Mafia as we are used to it on this site and Blood on the Clocktower:

  1. There are two teams: Good and Evil. Good wins when the Demon is lynched. Evil wins when there are two players alive and at least one is Evil, or when there is no way for Good to win, e.g., if all living players are Evil, since nobody can nominate the Demon.
  2. You can create semi-private group chats with other players during the day. What you say is private, but who is in each chat is public knowledge. (This is crucial information. Remember that the next time you hear the government say that collecting metadata is not an invasion of privacy.) Evil players have to create group chats like anyone else to communicate outside the thread, and there is no night chat.
  3. Roles are drawn from a script: a list of roles that could be in the game. Which roles are in the game is secret. Against my impulse to run something customized or complicated with Thothy flair, I am using the script Trouble Brewing, which is beginner-friendly and has been extensively tested and found to be almost perfectly balanced.
  4. Dead players can keep talking with living players, both publicly and privately, and can cast one vote after they die. They cannot nominate, i.e., cannot be the first person to vote for someone that day, they lose their role's abilities, and they don't count towards how many people are needed to lynch. Roles and alignments do not flip upon death.
  5. Some mechanics give the Storyteller (i.e, the game host, i.e, Thoth) limited discretion to choose the results they think will make the fun the most fun or balanced. These mechanics are publicly known from the start of the game. It's not freeform bastard.
  6. In real-life Blood on the Clocktower, voting is done by one player nominating another player during the voting period, which is after each day's discussion period. All players except the lynch candidate vote by raising their hand for yes or keeping it down for no as the moderator waves his arm around the table. Alas, asynchronicity stops me from running it that way, so the voting system for this game will be that you can vote for as many people as you want at once. Whoever has the most votes at the end of the day will be lynched, unless they have fewer votes than the majority of living players, in which case nobody dies. If there is a tie, nobody is lynched. What a terrible time for Kohai to introduce the upgraded host dashboard.

I feel guilty about this in that I would probably be scumreading Mikal/Banana harder if I had more to peel, so I almost feel like I'm punishing you for being active. While I have some unanswered questions, Banana's analysis today has seemed good to me, I felt that your interactions with wylted came off as theatrical, and, most of all, two Watchers is hard for me to buy even with a bit of precedent in Rex's other two games on here. If I fucked up, I fucked up.

but u still have no results on two night kill targets, so does mafia have 2 ninjas and a roleblocker? theres still a very specific set of rules for this to make sense

Or they killed Vader

This is a 180 from DP2 when you agreed that a Rolestopper and Roleblocker was excessive.

It's excessive in the sense that I probably wouldn't put both in a 9P game. Rex might think differently. I've been trying to analyze this day phase from the perspective of Rex's previous setups.

Thoth

I've been reading a lot of scumminess into various things Wryly has done throughout this game, but it could be that I'm looking through all of it with a scum-tinted magnifying glass and I would be seeing the same from Banana if I had nearly as much to ISO.

Rex obviously didn't give us a Rolestopper and a Roleblocker. Well, obvious from my pov, anyway. That's too much negative utility potential for town. Both roles are already swingy; you could roleblock a townie or you could rolestop scum. But even the positive utility potential of Roleblocker is mitigated if a Rolestopper targets scum as well.

Setups can be swingy. I don't see how you can say that a Tracker and Watcher are both in the game as town and then say Roleblocker/Rolestopper is impossible. They even serve to balance the possible extra death from the Lovers by making their death(s) less likely.

For the sake of full honesty, and I know how bad this sounds, I will say that I redid my lynch math last night and there was really no reason to VTNL wylted if I was sure he was scum. The extra DP from my Commuter was possible anyway. I'm retarded, but I'm tryna own up to it.

If you're scum then you likely didn't commute, so I think the argument is that you used a role which produced her "action failed."

Absolutely, but Banana's #162 made me think she was suggesting that her action failed because I Commuted and she was moved to me.

bcuz ur the only other claimed role that could result in an action failed, on a night when my action failed but u claim to have commuted.

So you are suggesting that I Commuted and you were redirected? Wouldn't that mean Wryly has to have an unclaimed redirect?

ya i did np2, u were a commuter night phase 2, which means idk why i would have had my action fail that night. rex did tell me there could be other roles for why my action failed tho so its the only reason i havent been pushing that.

Why is that a reason to be sus of me?

i already asked him this, he told me that i would recieve an action failed. kind of the main mechanical reason to be suspicious of thoth, bcuz this happened on the night he "commuted". rex did tell me however that there could be other roles and reasons for why my action failed.

I thought you blocked Pie?

I wonder if scum!Thoth would really say he sees wylted as almost an Innocent Child on DP1. Scum don't normally townread each other that hard, though he did immediately walk it back the next DP.

My misread of the theme was still way less theater than you and wylted put on.

idk exactly, but it kind of makes sense with all the bus driver claims. he was really trying to sell that.

I just did a quick ISO of wylted's day 2, and I wouldn't say that he was trying to sell the bus driver theory. He denies it, then hesitantly suggests it's possible.

i meant to say if thoth is scum he is setting up for his mirror role to do some sort of confirmation. i think where u r confused is because i said town

also rex told me if a mirror is used and u targeted wylted then u would have rolestopped yourself, u didnt claim to have action fail so that means u actually role stopped him np1 or ur scum'

I don't doubt that I actually Rolestopped him.

wtlted- np1 claims role copped Thoth and got his own role back. we know this is false since he role copped pie np2 and got a tracker which pie hadn’t claimed. so he used a watcher or a mirror. if Thoth is his town then he is setting up for his mirror role to do some sort of confirmation i think. if thoth is scum i dont know what their play or plan was here except for a half baked bus or sumthing.

Could you please explain?
