In addendum, being vanilla doesn’t really match up with such an early soft. Normally, a townie who is a strong PR does that, trying to avoid a full claim.

The soft did feel a bit hasty as well, so this feels like mafia softing to buy time to find a claim, more than a townie who wants to hide his cards from the mafia tea

I have noticed a trend of hasty claiming seeming to come from town more often than scum. Also look at how Thoth behaved under pressure in his last two scum games. While he eventually complied and claimed in solo leveling it was after a night of posturing that he was some super good role that was worth hiding. And he didn’t even claim in Amber mafia despite being the center of the focus the entire day phase. Granted he was sick, but he still didn’t claim like this when he was there and posting. Just saying

In a nine player game, if you are host and planning on putting in one or two vanillas, how do you do it? Do you put in some

For example in my Ted Lasso game both Keeley Jones and Rebecca Welton were vanillas, but were arguable some of the biggest characters in the show. Whiteflame was Keeley and he praised me for making a justification that made sense for vanillas in that game since so many hosts have crap ones. I think we definitely need to hear Thoths justification before jumping to any conclusions, but I’m very likely to buy a vanilla claim at this stage in a Whiteflame game based on his comments to me in Ted Lasso.

It was kind of RVS but he was not taking the bait. That said I think it’s unlikely Thoth is scum three times in a row. But pretty sure I’ve said the same thing about Whiteflame and been wrong in the past. That said there is a world where Mikal’s Thoth push is not just an opportunistic thing and something he genuinely thinks will go somewhere useful. It’s early game though so we will see. With 9 players and having so many strong players in this one I’d rather focus people like pie and Mikal and yourself early on though

You are utterly missing the point here. It does not matter if them doing that was AI or not. Its that its bullshit and should never happen in the first place. This is the type of behavior that is going to make mafia players not want to come to this community and we should not excuse it.

The whole "people will never come here" thing isn't a thing I think we largely care about. Don;t get me wrong it's cool to have more people come over here. We have never taken ourselves that serious as a mafia community, at least in terms of more competitive places like MU. We are a group of debate nerds who play with a small community of our nerd friends, we never really advertise our mafia elsewhere. It's cool to get new people like you, magoroth, and cerulean from other sites, but we have also been content to play with a small community.

That is fundamentally just a very weird take. But it probobly just stems from where you learned the game so I guess it makes sense.

That if you are breaking the walls of what a game is including factors like "Well outside of this game this player said X" and "I think the host would give roles in X order with X timeline so lets break the game with that" its just shitting on the game. We will never get real mafia players in this community if this kind of behavior is excused

I disagree. I think it should always be taken with a grain of salt and not be the sole reason to lynch someone, obviously, but to use the example with rex from last game again, you were wondering why I town read him so much, I knew you were hesitant to town read him. While I kind of town read his behavior in the mason thread (he wasn't crazy active in there) most of the reason I kept writing him off as town confirmed was because mikal had added him in after the initial player pool was already added. Most of the time scums get their scum pms figured out first so they can start strategizing and planning 24 hours in advance. I didn't think mikal would shake up the entire balance of the game to add in one person. I was right in the end about Rex. While it could have just been luck or happenstance, I don't think it was. But if I had noticed significantly scummy behavior from him to reduce that, I would probably dis-regard it, but otherwise its hard not to.

Normal I guess relative to the sites you hail from. Also its not like its overtly used here either. Mikal uses it more than most players, he always has, but most of the time people don't really regard those takes from him very highly. I will consider some OGI if its compelling enough, but usually it isn't in most cases. But I always get annoyed when people throw a fit about someone using it. Thats what I did with mikals angleshooting read on Oberon lol.
