Here's my "ghost" story:

First, let me set it up with the context. Sidewalker is a term from Therapeutic Horseback Riding, it was my passion for over 30 years and I have performed every role from President of the program to tacking horses and everything in between, but what I loved most was being a Sidewalker. So, what the Sidewalker does is walk alongside the horse (hence the term) to interact with the student, help them with the lesson, and most importantly, protect the child in the event of an emergency. A thousand-pound horse creates a dangerous situation if it is startled, it bolts, bucks, or falls.

At the time my horse farm had both a covered arena and an uncovered arena, in the staging area, was the mounting block, open arena, and where everyone congregated, tacked the horses, etc, the covered arena was about two hundred yards away. we would mount the kids (FLRW, behave yourself, just let it go by) and the therapeutic team would walk them out across a field to the covered arena when that was where they were riding. The entire horse farm had a ten-foot chain link fence around it. So, typically we walk around the arena for an hour with each rider, doing lessons and exercises, because we are doing this all day, because of the monotony of it, I had a tendency to start thinking about work or something, and stop paying attention, the leader or therapist could usually tell when I'm zoned out and get my attention, scold me, etc. I would respond that I was sorry, but I was having an epiphany, which was the big joke with all the kids, a lot of them greeted me with something like, had any epiphanies today Side? Sheesh, I didn't realize I'd have to explain so much before even telling the story, but that's done so here's the story.

I'm sidewalking with a ten-year-old autistic girl (Autism was my therapeutic specialty), we are in the covered arena, about 30 yards on one side of the covered arena it is open, no wall, instead there is a fence and gate there, our barn manager and one of our volunteers were leaned against the fence watching the lesson. So, I started thinking about work and zoned out, I wasn't paying attention and as we came around the bend, I saw an old woman, maybe 70 or 80 years old, she is standing against the fence maybe ten feet away from the barn manager and volunteer. The woman smiled at me, it's hard to describe what that smile did or how it made me feel, but it startled me and caused me to snap to attention, in my mind at least, I heard her voice calmly say, "You know what to do", I heard this very clearly and suddenly, I'm completely in the moment as alert as ever. Right then, the horse stumbles and goes down head over heels, it seemed to happen in slow motion, and I took the girl off the horse as she went by me, had I not gotten her off the horse, she probably would have been injured, maybe very seriously.

So, now the girl is crying, the barn manager and volunteer have rushed into the arena to help us out, we get the horse settled, calm the girl down and put her back on the horse to finish the lesson (getting back on is important or they will never ride again). I asked the others where that woman went (I felt I needed to thank her) and they said "what woman?", they didn't see a woman there. The girl was non-communicative, only spoke with ASL, and for the rest of the session she was fidgety and excited, as you would expect after such a mishap. So, we finish the lesson, go outside and I'm looking around for this woman, she isn't around, and we walk back across the field to the staging area. As soon as we dismount the girl she ran to her mother and started excitedly signing to her to tell her what happened, I'm thinking "oh great, I'm going to have a frightened mom to deal with. While that's happening, I'm asking around and nobody saw the woman, I'm thinking, what the hell, she certainly couldn't climb the fence, and nobody saw her walk across the field, WTF.

So Mom comes over and I said "I guess she told you what happened", and started to explain to calm her down, to which she said what her daughter told her is that her grandmother was there. I said, I saw her and wanted to know where she went, I want to thank her (thanking this woman was very important to me at the time), anyway, Mom tells me we are mistaken, the girl's grandmother died two years ago. I was shocked, and to this day, maybe two decades later I remain shocked by what happened. I have no idea what really happened that day, but I know that I experienced a woman who helped me protect that girl from harm, and I know the girl saw her too.

I don't know if I actually saw a ghost that day, I think it's best to not even try to explain it, or even comprehend it rationally, I just know something happened and I'm grateful for it. One thing is clear, my skepticism about so called "ghost stories" completely disappeared that day. and I believe in my heart that, somehow, some way, the girl's grandmother reached out to me to protect her granddaughter.

According to a Gallup poll taken in May, 40% of Americans believe in Ghosts, the article I read began with "If you say you saw a ghost, 40% of Americans will believe you.

So, first, do you believe in Ghosts, and second, have you ever experienced one, if so, please share it with us.

I've got to go run some errands so I will have to share my own experience later. I can tell you I was skeptical until I had an experience that made me a believer.

Walt Whitman faced public "disgrace" in his time
due to the controversial content of his poetry, particularly the explicit and homoerotic themes in Leaves of Grass. His unconventional style and subject matter scandalized Victorian-era readers and critics who considered his work immoral and obscene.

It's been a century and a half, you really need to get past it.

When Walt Whitman upsets you, take deep breaths and count to ten, maybe close your eyes and think of a happy place.

The Democrat Senator mud-sticking of demanding healthcare for illegal aliens in-country

That is another of your bald-faced lies, nobody is demanding healthcare for illegal aliens, nobody has ever wanted that, it is illegal, and it has never occurred in this country.

That is just pablum Trump has fed to his galactically gullible base, and when they repeat that lie, it just makes Trumpers look incredibly stupid.

In both instances, Trump shut down the economy in an attempt to increase his power, and he couldn't give a shit less that it causes people to suffer. Fact is, he likes making people suffer because it makes him feel powerful.

The longest government shutdown in 2018-2019 for 35 days, Trump was President, the House of Representatives had a Republican majority, and the Senate had a Republican majority.

This government shutdown is the second longest, 27 days and counting, Trump is President, the House of Representatives has a Republican majority, the Senate has a Republican majority.

Walt Whitman was considered a controversial author due to his overtly sensual and sexual content in Leaves of Grass, which shocked and offended many readers of his time. He was also viewed as controversial for his rejection of traditional poetry forms and for his private writings, which contained racist and elitist views, contradicting the egalitarian spirit of much of his published work. These aspects of his writing led to his work being banned from libraries and even cost him a government job.

170 years later, I'm over it.

Trump

Sidewalker · a year ago

Trump is a slang term in England and Europe, particularly in British English, "trump" is a colloquial and often euphemistic term for a fart or to break wind.

The verb "to trump" can mean to expel intestinal gas, and an audible fart is sometimes referred to as a "trump".

In British Slang, when Trump is used as a verb it means "To break wind", the most common slang meaning is to fart.

When used as a noun, it refers to an audible fart, the slang meaning is quite old and stems from the word's original meaning "to sound a trumpet," which explains how it became associated with a fart's audible noise.

In bridge: a Trump card is a playing card of the "Trump suit" chosen to rank above the others, a Trump card can win a trick where a card of a different suit has been led.

This establishes "suit supremacy" in Bridge and other similar card games, as the embedded rules of the game establish structural bias towards the inferior suits. This privileged status of the Trump suit allows the Trump card to enjoy supremacy over all other suits such that Trump cards can systemically dominate hands.

Don't just assume he's talking about the President, he didn't specify who he is actually talking about, there are a lot of people named Trump, it could be a discussion about George Trump, or Mary Trump, or maybe he's talking about the card name Bridge.

He will whine like a little girl snowflake if you just assume he's talking about Donald Trump.

I am fine with them having standards as long as those standards dont exclude me, but preferably exclude all other men.

Most female billionaires would have you on their list, but they also have RemyBrown on their list, I really don't know how they could choose.

Sidewalker
You just declared 99% of women are below average

Yes. I dont see a logical problem with that claim.

The problem is the top 1% of women has their own standards.

You probably ought to stick with the AI girlfriend.

Walt Whitman was a radical democrat who was deeply engaged with the politics of his time, though his views were often complex, inconsistent, and evolved throughout his life
. While his poetry celebrated democratic ideals and equality, his personal racial attitudes were often prejudiced, reflecting the views of many white Americans during the 19th century.

Oh, well when you put it that way...so what?

What makes you think the question is about Trump? I never mentioned a president by name. It could be easily about Oba'a, or Clinton, or Bush 43, for example. But, I understand fixation, a Socialist ideal, of course.

Did I mention a president by name? No, it's a general question, but the Constitution does say [22nd amendment] "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice." See my response to Sidewalker.

Is my #1 posing the original question somehow vague to you? Look up each word definition, then, if any are beyond you - there is no hidden agenda therein. Just a simple question that could potentially apply to, at present, 4 different men; two of each major Party; Bill Clinton, Bush 43, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. I think two of those men, and potentially three [the latter being Bush] would feel maligned being associated with MAGA.

Sorry to make one of your posts relevant, I know you think it’s clever to keep your posts inane and impertinent, and I understand your fixation, suppressing freedom of speech is a Fascist/Authoritarian ideal, of course.

Unfortunately, because your man Trump hasn’t completely overturned the first amendment yet, you don’t get to control the thoughts and speech of others, consequently, we can always introduce substance into the conversation even when your post is pointless.

I’m sorry if that confuses you, but when informed people respond to a post they tend to be presumptuous enough to direct the conversation into the relevant context. By informed, in this case, I mean people who don’t live under a rock and therefore are aware that Donald Trump is declaring he could run again and it is currently a primary subject the national discussion.

You can go ahead and declare we are wrong to have a discussion of substance about relevant events currently dominating the news cycle, and that allows you to call people names, and I suppose that is some kind of puerile “win” in your psychodrama, go for it, because nobody cares about the petty things that float your childish boat.

Sidewalker
you are a MAGA talking head.

Your opinion, only, but not the case.

...your prevarication?

What prevarication? Is my #1 posing the original question somehow vague to you? Look up each word definition, then, if any are beyond you - there is no hidden agenda therein. Just a simple question that could potentially apply to, at present, 4 different men; two of each major Party; Bill Clinton, Bush 43, Barack Obama, and Donald Trump. I think two of those men, and potentially three [the latter being Bush] would feel maligned being associated with MAGA.

Walt whitman archives

What kind of man who was a quaker, yet says "the best government is that which governs the least" (Gathering 1:60)

Walt Whitman was a poet who died back in the 1800s, and anybody who can get bunged up about his political views today, needs to get a life.

Yet also contridicted himself in some ways and never saw it as an evil.
Do I contradict myself?Very well then I contradict myself,(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

So you think it is evil when you contradict yourself?

What are your thoughts on such a man?
Discuss/debate

My thoughts are he's a great poet from another century, his political views don't matter, and it's almost creepy that you are looking for a line in one of his poems so you can declare him evil.

Get a grip.

Thanks

Heh, I 'think I've heard some dictators hold votes, even after they gained power.

Trump isn't deploying the military against the American people because he wants to have an election, he has consistently shown us that he couldn't give a shit less to how they vote.

Being so popular in fact, that they receive 110% of the vote.

LOL, I don't think Trump would settle for only 110%, this is the guy who has promised to reduce drug prices 1500%, if he can reduce prices 1500%, then he can easily get 1000% of the vote.

Sidewalker
I have never seen such an effort by the judicial system in all my life try so hard and repeatedly to try and take down a sitting President.

That's because the judicial system has never had to deal with a president that blatantly broke so many laws. He's the one that packed the federal courts with loyalists and still they are overwhelmed by his lawlessness. Even loyalist judges can't say Trump is allowed override the constitution with Executive orders.

A Pigmy Hippo in a graveyard wearing pink lingerie would be weird.

Of pulease, a "Pigmy Hippo in a graveyard wearing pink lingerie" wouldn't be nearly as weird as either RemyBrown or SatanLucy, they both make the Hippo look normal.

Sidewalker
Not really. I hope I die before age 40. I dont want to have dementia.

Maybe dementia would be an improvement.in your thinking.
